faction leaders through the ages really think they own the property and licensing rights to "Civil Protection Metropolice Half-Life 2™"
its a video game ur only "job" is to make sure ur faction has a good time
tbf fac leads were tasked with ensuring no dumb shit went on in their faction and that they kept the quality standards high/made sure fac members weren't abusing their ic authority to do stupid stuff

it's just the definition of dumb shit changes from person to person

like i dont think rogue auths should be a thing
if everyone is going rogue there's IC issues in the faction thats making being a rebel more appealing to the cops within the faction

I think this falls into the problem that people will inherently go with the more interesting route, even if it doesn't make sense for their character.

Like if you went "Oh, you can keep playing a cop or you can go be a cool rogue and do rebel stuff" its 99% a given people will find an OOC excuse to do it. Its the thing that almost killed Finus, because most of the cop faction heard "HELLO COMBINE, JOIN DUTY" and ran off for epic rogue roleplay, and almost killed WI and UM at various points for the same reason.

If you don't have checks in place, people will jump ship for the absolute flimsiest of reasons.

we had maybe 4 rogue cops out of 40 cop players it wasnt really. plus it was flootgates like quarantine being over (during a losing war) when people had been aching for it with tight restrictions for years
i find it weird to put a stopper on roleplay behind authorization (unless ur trying to be a serial killer or smth)
if one path of ur story is clearly more fun for you then u should do that

there's probably a fair few people on the server who think my character is fundamentally dumb shit and likely refuse to engage with him on principle

imo this is because "rogue cop" is such a holy grail situation, and its genuinely the server's fault
if you make it so fucking tedious and difficult to become a rogue cop for 99% of the server's lifespan, and put bullshit rules like "if you die for ANY REASON you get PK'd" and basically soft-ban it entirely, then obviously everyone is gonna do it during the one time they can, because its the ONLY time they can

RelentlessGaming had no auths for rogue cops, you could just go rogue whenever you wanted, no extra stipulations attached
it had 1 rogue cop in its lifetime, and he was a middling-level rebel

If people took it in moderation I'd totally support it, but the twice factions have tried a "no auths, go nuts" policy it almost killed both entirely because people spent more time moonlighting in blacksuits than actually doing the faction stuff they joined for. It got so bad in the end that BQ and I had to push for them to have some sort of barrier to go rogue.

I dunno how it'd work out for cops, but its one of those "not sure confident" things.

yeah at this point the only solution is to bite the bullet and accept the faction being dead for ~3 months while everyone has their fun being rogue. people will get bored of it and go back to playing a cop in time, once the honeymoon phase is over, and the joy of being the quirky rogue cop will be nullified by everyone else also being quirky rogue cops

this is a problem that was only caused because being rogue was such a ballache in the first place. at this point it's just grandfathered into the server like S2K is

i think we've shown there is little correlation to PKs in old iteration to getting tilted because people get especially angry when they die in NLR alone

it's less so that people were slapping mass PKs back then so much as it is people don't like losing in general. I don't think we (the majority) ever moved away from powertripping character archetypes, we just express them differently now, and in a more self contained manner. dying or losing in any way, violates that image many of us ascribe to our chars

NPR (New Pride Rule): After each victory in S2K, the winner must send the loser a private message of personal affirmation (e.g "Great shootout, John!" or "You tried so hard!") in order to restore their sense of pride and accomplishment from acquiring weapon scripts.

You may not take away a player's ego without staff permission.

john doe got crushed under a tree and needed a new body (truly a worm moment)
so 3 rebels went out for corpse hunting and found a dead CP
brought it to john
john did the worm

then i got a PM saying "headcops wont let you do that"

a little bit miff-inducing since it was literally a complete OOC sandbagging with no IC justification

ended up being given a generic model and had john just ICly strip naked for no reason after getting the cop body
2016 headcop tier shit

yeah exactly

i dunno bro everything just felt like it got softer and like we had to be "fairer" to all facets of rp

like

i enjoyed playing a citizen because it wasnt fair. my char was dirt. they could get beaten for next to no fucking reason. they could earn all these points n then have them taken away by some bitch CAB that quite frankly just felt like it and came up with a half decent reason. it made me feel like i should be playing a char that constantly feels like theyre desperate and out of options

nothing was fair

and then it started becoming insanely fair.

citizenrp by the time i got back from being banned for 2 yrs felt like fuckin white picket fence living

cops werent scary anymore. cab were just irl politicians with an alien regime twist. ota were made to reel themselves in because everything they did was viewed as 'unfair'. citizens didnt really get beat unless they really fucked up. if somebody did do something a bit harsh they got fucked w/ oocly because of it

sounds backwards but hl2rp got way more boring to me when everything was suddenly "fair"

my char getting fucked over for some bullshit reason didnt make me wanna bitch oocly, totally unfair and complete bullshit situations is what provided me with most of my dev

again, subjective
well people wouldnt stop bitching and whining every time cops did anything remotely """oppressive"

ive been hounded on the forums several times for doing basic shit like breaking up a protest with a few warning shots or beating up a guy (with full rp) for mouthing off an entire patrol

essentially the vocal rebel/gang player base watered down the experience so much it went beyond just getting rid of some actual anti-rp bad apples in the faction

in the end all it accomplished was an extremely milk toast experience, you couldn't do shit on civilpro, not for fear of IC retaliation which would've been fine, but because a gang of spergs would pull the muh dystopia card on you every single time

the forums being so popular has stifled a lot of RP because it gave people the avenue to OOCly complain about anything and everything

i dont fucking get it bro i really dont

like getting my shit rocked by cops provided some of my earliest chars with so much fucking dev its not even funny

think it was evil's cop or possibly @key cop back in 2016 that was just an unironic psychopath nutcase that pulled CWU moslak aside, threatened her for little to no reason in some shop's back room by putting a piece of glass up to her eye, told her he'd be watching her and then left

that shit spiraled into so much fucking chardev for moslak that i couldnt even begin to explain it, despite the fact it was a 5 minute edgy civipro moment

like, it went so far that it even influenced her as a city administrator almost 2 years later

why the fuck are people such pussies

Anybody know what happened to snowl? I was just thinking about who the fastest typing rper I've ever met was and remembered him. Him and somebody else I can't remember.

Back in 2018 on D47 I was witness (only witness I think) to snowl and somebody RP fighting in the sewers and it was to this day some of the wildest shit I've ever seen. Literally

reggie-vs-iwata-die.gif

Their descriptives were so good, with some slapstick thrown in with neither trying to beat the other but just have fun with it. I was dying laughing for most of it, and they were both typing so fast I had no time to even react. Closest thing to \mes playing out in realtime I've ever seen
