ep2 gnome achievement would've been so much easier if I could've held the cunt with one hand while driving the muscle car with the other.

Holy shit, I've just realized something regarding the ending as well as the brain-damaged vortiguant.

The vortiguant says in regards to Eli being alive or dead: "He is dead. Or, he will be. It is a matter of perspective.". I can only assume that is in reference to the fact that two timelines are made as a result of HL:A's ending which both provide 'deaths' of sorts since:

(Half Life: Alyx) Eli is saved by Alyx, but he ultimately loses the only thing that really kept him motivated in the form of Alyx being taken by the G-Man; thus being 'dead' to a degree.

(Half Life 2: Episode 2) Eli ultimately dies at the hands of the Advisor.

The vortiguant also says "Alyx Vance alone cannot predict his fate.".

Both sentences combined, does that mean then that the vortiguant was potentially already aware of Eli's fate far into the future?

the vort was 100% aware of eli's future fate and he seems to confuse the present and the future multiple times because of his brain damage, and he also says 'alyx vance alone cannot prevent his fate' so he knows outside forces like vortigaunts or gman are needed for eli's survival. also my gamer take - imo the time paradox created by valve implies future alyx ceases to exist when past alyx changes the future, basically

Do you think it's possible that Vortessence can block out GMan's and Advisor's telepathical forces?
Wouldn't surprise me if that was why the combine targeted the vortiguants to begin with.

I think you can see in the ending how Advisor notices young Alyx Vance's presence, but the time freezes so it cant do jack shit

gotta admit, if gman being imprisoned is any indication, the idea that everything the combine does is in part to keep away gman and his employers (or dissuade their meddling, at least) ties up alot of the half life plot pretty neatly

Not sure personally, with how elaborate the prison is, and how easy it is for gman to seize control of space and time and be at any place at any time. I feel he intentionally got himself captured as a means to lure in Alyx, or any other suitable replacement after the Vortigaunts freed Gordon from his employment.

I would say the vortessence is clearly keeping him at bay exactly as it was working in episode 1 by the vorts except on a bigger scale, so he really is weakened/imprisoned by the combine(hence why it's even a part of an apartment they captured him in stuck to the vault. of course, this all can be retorted by the time paradox valve created with their ending so we'll never really know unless they clarify wtf they wanted to do with this whole future/timetravel shenanigans
part of me also thinks it's cooler that he's 'vulnerable' rather than a god conspirator that willingly got himself stuck and the combine actually managing to capture him is impressive

that would make sense actually, but i'd like to think that he isn't *that* powerful plot-wise - and it makes the whole time travel aspect more confusing

tfw when alyx literally says 'dad' in front of three OTA soldiers and they didn't immediately stop and go "uhmmm did you say family relationship??" and pk them on the spot

le sigh when @Blackquill won't edit our lore because hl:alyx changes """nothing""" :(
