TLOU2 getting GOTY and 7 awards was just pure cringe.

It deserved like, one of those awards being the accessibility award.

Just goes to show how the literal award distribution is almost entirely for the sake of marketing and advertising, and it's an excuse for Naughty Dog to not go under if they get GOTY

It definitely didn't deserve the Story Awards, or really any other award for that matter but I understand the Accessibility Award being given to them.

Nominations, sure. But 7 awards won?
It's a clear gross display of the connections between the voting committee (which according to their FAQ consists of over 50 'experts' and only incorporates 10% of the public opinion acquired via social media for the vote) and the actual people who're going to be playing the games.

The fact TLOU2 won GOTY at both The Game Awards and The Golden Joystick Awards during the same year games like DOOM: Eternal, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Carrion, Half Life: Alyx, Crusader Kings III, Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Trials of Mana, Streets of Rage 4, Hades, Helltaker, Valorant, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, Among Us and many more games that I'm probably forgetting, it's an actual travesty and a disgrace to the public for none of them to be taking the GOTY Award. Since the release of TLOU2, barely anyone's actually spoken about the game. It has no longevity, and it is solely ran by the controversy it generated by being a shitty rehash of the exact same formula that killed off fan favorite characters whilst forcing in a transgender character and a sex scene. I can guarantee to you that the only reason why the game is getting GOTY is to pull Naughty Dog out of their financial shithole, or to appease a very minor and very vocal audience.

One thing I can give credit to TLOU2 for is its graphics, though. It is a genuinely beautiful game, visually speaking. But you can't rely on graphics alone to cause success.

This to be honest.

Game journalists are rarely gamers; just good writers who get a controller slapped in front of them.

As sad as it is, giving games bad reviews can actually prevent journalists from gaining access to journalistic content such as review copies of games.

It’s basically a vicious cycle of journalists praising games to give them good advertising in exchange for the game companies to keep on providing journalistic material to keep those journalists in employment. The companies just use them as free marketing.
