I think it's a cool idea , if it ever becomes a fully fledged thing I'd defiantly love to check it out!

I definitely think the Walking Dead idea is great, but I'm not too sure about the focus on that your character won't live long. The scratches having a chance to infect might be overkill although bites should kill. If its true to the series (everyone's infected infection, bites kill not infect, when killed you reanimate) I'd love it. Although just too much emphasis on the not living long part.

I watched until Glenn got you know what and then I stopped watching. I was satisfied with that high point in the series and abandoned it since for grander pastures. I don't even want to know what the last six seasons have been like, my lord.

Negan is worth watching for alone and The Whisperers are probably the greatest thing TWD has produced (comics or show alike).

The last two seasons have been far better than the others.

tbf that's majorly in part because the recent seasons made zombies a threat again

primarily by having a group that're virtually indistinguishable from them

for the lore, you could leave it up to the player's interpretation in my opinion

like by having events exploring certain parts of the cities with hints at what could be the cause for the apocalypse, but never solidifying anything so that the lore isn't restrictive towards people's imaginations or the event teams, don't know if anyone else has suggested this cause I didn't go through most of the replies

the starting event could be like in the city as things are about to go down, an ongoing evacuation as the military's chain of command collapses due to the mysterious nature of the infection/virus, with high ranking officials falling victim

the military could be made up of staff and trusted members, have them be strict towards civilians, and use them to set the tone, give players the necessary tools for survival and opportunities to break off of the main group and start their own communities and shit with staff overseeing

you can have them well-armed at the beginning, but take advantage of the early on chaos to exhaust their resources if they're not smart about their situation through early-game events

these are just some ideas I had in mind

i think the idea is overall good. would be fun
i think it'd be cool if it was set in like a fictional post-apocalyptic totalitarian country somewhere in the east or smth

Walking Dead is just another way of saying Zombies without being forced to use such a generic term, really.

Dead Rising is another one that sounds nice.

Risen Dead.

Dead Awaken.

They all mean the same thing, you just have to find something marketable. Walking Dead is probably the best because it gets the idea of walking zombies.

I remember there was a SolanumRP (Max Brooks Zombie Survival Guide canon virus), but I think most people didn't realize what it was because of the name.

More known, perhaps could stay alive for much longer than WW3?
WW3RP's name has a lot of weight, probably more than the Walking Dead at least on the Gmod community, at least, imo.

I don't think it can last that long before everyone gets bored.

Here's an alternative; TnB run random-roleplays.

Over the course of a annum, we could run three or more random-roleplays ( people suggest what they want to see, e.g this rp, ) spanning across a three to four week period each.

There'll be plenty of time between each one for event people to get together and form a proper story-arc / narrative that the roleplay will follow.

This also gives people a small break from the main server when things eventually drop off or the playercount lowers- revitalising interest once the roleplay has concluded.

Opinions?

I'd prefer 28 Days Later;

Basically the same concept only the threat of 'zombies' is much larger due to their speed, stamina, and ability to infect you without outright breaking the skin. That, and the uniqueness of it would hopefully draw in a much larger crowd and stop it being too similar to free for all dayz themed servers. Probably looking at a 28DL themed server through rose tinted glasses since it remains one of my favourite films and is one of(if not the only) 'zombie' film to make me shit myself. In reality it would probably be a lot harder to pull off and from a gameplay standpoint the running zombies and attempts to enforce the 'one drop' infection system would be too labour intensive to pull off and very difficult to code.

A 28DL themed server would be nice, but from a roleplay server standpoint TWD makes much more sense. Definitely has my interest.

Unlike HL2RP there really isn't any inherent 'wheel' for players to spin, and so you really do need some form of plotline and consistent motivation for people to hop on and play.
adding on to my main post, the zombie outbreak in 28DL is contained to mainland britain while the rest of the world is infection free. therefore the possibility of continuing the story, whether other countries eventually get infected or the storyline takes on more of a repopulation effort only for future outbreaks to occur, exists. people still in britain dont know that the rest of the world is perfectly fine however, so it still keeps that aspect of doom and gloom for people to play out

And I honestly think myself at least that it could be a lot better if it’s like 28DL in a few senses that come to mind. One being firearms will be a hell of a lot more uncommon and actually proper tools compared to it being set in the US. I honestly think guns are way too commonly used and to me at least it feels a bit dumb at a point when everyone has a gun.

People will actually be able to use literally anything as a weapon, things they’d never imagine using, like a fucking clothes hanger that someone can bend to make their own push dagger, or a actual fucking steel chain.

The military would be a even bigger force to be reckoned with. Who knows if this small band of heavily armed dudes are actually still with the army or if they’re fucking psychos like in the movie?

Hell even PMC or PSCs showing up on behalf of some country who hired them to collect samples of shit. Or even SAS dudes showing up or even actual fucking bombing raids

Besides, realistically unlike the movies. The military would never be fully wiped out. And think of how awesome it would be for a survivor to see a MBT strolling down Main Street with a whole armored column behind them

it would be great if the server launched with a series of day-long introduction events that follow the path of the outbreak in the film, like the evacuations and military being overrun. after that the server can go into its regular state and things can go from there. also like the idea of it being set in the UK where guns are anything but plentiful, and the ones that do exist being civilian grade shotguns or the occasional handgun. the good thing with 28DL zombies is although they're fast and agile, continuity wise they're just pissed off humans doped up on adrenaline, you can still easily kill one with some shots to the chest

itd certainly draw in a large crowd to say the least, its a unique take on the zombie genre that freshens things up but keeps the same feel
