I've took on some of the lessons we learned from the Linntrination and I'm pretty confident we got something cooked. So far, the plan is similar to the one we had for that iteration, however there will be a lot more opportunities at the get go, versus later down the line to immediately jumpstart the player economy and civilian stuff. My hope is to execute it perfectly this time :)

You can do your setting and what you want with it, I just urge you to consider not making it a 24/7 server and limiting it to the weekend. Would focus the attention of everyone playing, and would allow you to get rid of the arbitrary script farming so people could focus on RPing instead of grinding for weeks

That, and you can do something so much more varied and neat if you treat each weekend like its own little event with stuff being planned for each day in advance

I can at least confirm that I'll ensure the script farming will be kept to a minimum. We'll have a staff meeting this week and I think this thread will serve as a very good basis to discuss everyone's concerns and ideas to really make this a fun iteration. I'm personally not sure how handle-able a weekend server can be for us, but I'll open the discussion on the subject regardless

Self-supplying yourself and your friends with stuff you summoned out of thin air was an easy way to cause runaway inflation.

At least with the (ludicrously gimped and overcomplicated) crafting system you had to find or obtain things to modifying or create something, BMD's just turn air and ration payments (idling) into shipments.

My gripe was the failure to create an environment to play a human character (on the Combine side of things). But if you aimed to play a human character, you needed a lot of suspension of disbelief to argue why your character is not being transhumanised. And then, on top of that, you had to witness most of the people you'd met become OTA, which very frequently meant they'd stop playing soon. Losing all your friends to that process makes for good character development, but the fact that it was a regular occurrence made it a dead end, in a way - you either keep repeating the same scenario over and over, or begin to simply ignore the issue, neither of which were sustainable in the long term.
Speaking as someone who went into the faction and tried to follow that exact arc, you're both right and wrong.

Cops were frequently drafted, especially as the war ramped up and infractions became a case of "become a conscripted officer or die", punishments boiled down to death when they would have been far more lenient before, and even the system itself struggled with hordes of new faces and sudden losses over the course of hours or less.

Even ignoring the overwatch system's fragmentation/breakdowns, there is no real method of supplying such info of who's meriting what 'promotion' beyond self-reportation, rank leader recommendations and snatching candidates in the rare cases that they could get candidates from outposts and garrisons.

On the pseudo-IC level, having to deal with friends getting transhumanised meant my character had less people to confide in. He had less resolve, more confusion over every new face in the garrison, more fear whenever it would be his 'turn', and being one of the few last remaining week one characters by that time really highlighted that lack of transhumanisation was not the only means of biting it.

Witnessing more and more 'replacements' slowly filter in felt much more like the scenario you described, to the point where I did have to ignore it by the last map otherwise it would have been a mental breakdown (suicide) right on the edge of a pivotal mapchange moment. Furthermore, unlike transhumanisation I don't remember really anyone outside of @Appetite Ruining Kebab reacting to it.

You know, since we have a smaller player base, it's possible with some devwork that we can branch out from HL2RP into other kinds of settings.

Honest to God I think @Subeh 's terminatorRP concept could work in action here
