this is for this week's contest
@Lemon Cuntcake come on bro catch up

for those wondering, it's a mix of Gmod, SFM and Photoshop blending.
Took around 8 hours, most of it was making different layers and editing separate poses to make transparent pictures of the characters for easy editing.
e: i can't draw i just used photoshop filters

rule of thumb: you dont need your poses in pngs or 4k

unless youre one of the people that can crank ur fucking pc into overdrive and add so much detail that its like UE4 theres no need for 4k ever

the same amount of detail in 1080p or whatever the fuck is visible in 4k/png

Pretty tired today, so I'm going to be short on words

@Hamilton, a very basic pose, that seems pretty much just unfinished. Can't really comment on much here, other than this soldier's pose looks decent. It might not be as tense as you'd be expecting from the concept of this poster, it's more as if he'd be casually guarding something, but it's pretty nice either way. You need now to focus on what story you want to tell with your poses and how are you going to tell them. Placing one ragdoll there simply isn't going to do it, but if you'll keep on doing what you do, just slowly improving overtime I'm sure as hell you'll get there. We've all been there and we all know that with time you can only get better (unless you're that fuck Xenzie)
Good luck fam

@Dicknose, considering that you've made something real close to the original you've been basing off while using just very simple 3D programs, it's actually pretty good. It does feel like a photograph, and you have indeed taken care of the singlest detail here. I don't feel like rewarding it because of it not being so original and because of that empty space on the right, but it's hella decent. Good job man,

@FieldersNL, like most of your poses, they have tons of details and don't concentrate on a single character, but rather speak about the larger picture. There are two things that bother me every time though are how your lighting and camera angles doesn't always go well. I can't exactly explain what you'd need to do in order to fix the camera angles, so I direct you to @Erkor and his poses, as well as some of the winners of this competition. As for lighting, I'd say that it's usually very bland, plain, without any interesting colors. Most of your posters are a mix of yellow and orange pixels, with nothing standing apart. I know how to do the rest, posing and all, but you need to work on your style so that your poses will be something more than these yellow and orange pixels, something unique. I have my hopes in you, because you've improved like hell through the past and I know you aren't finished with that. Best of luck fam,

lighting is still a bitch
@ramsey, honestly, I just can't load it up, sorry. My internet is a fucking joke, both when it comes to it's speed and price

@liew, we've got a young Lewis here. It's a compliment on it's own,

imagine: the rule of thirds

draw imaginary lines over your monitor where a third of it would be (or just use an overlay like a normal human being) and use these as reference to see where something would look really nice

usually the best spots are situated on or between a third and another, e.g. the first third and the second third, right on the lines

using SFM allows you to just download an overlay and there's a couple on the workshop for it

if not, then fuck off im not making any

what I do on a large scenebuild like that is that I take 1 or 2 spotlights and put them very far away and then increase the distance the light shines so that it catches all of the objects and makes shadows etc to look like it's a sun, and then the other spotlight the opposite of that with lower brightness as a filler light, I found some more in depth tutorial about this, my explaining is kinda confusing

and sometimes you also need a couple of more if there are things like windows etc that might reflect the light, in which case you need to make fake light reflections etc since the source engine doesn't bounce the lighting like 3d softwares such as Blender does

hello, so this is a very old idea that just recently got into the works (this was made around the map got released, so around august). this idea came from me and pyro just talking about the map, and I noticed how it had a very nazi-germany feel, mainly due to the big red banners. then a idea came up of an alternate universe with soldiers of the nazi armed forces and ss fighting the combine for whatever reason. enough backstory on how I got to this idea, I need help with filling up the scene and making the scene just overall look and feel better and more alive, please tell me your ideas if you have got any.

refer to my new post for the images, the ones I've posted on this reply simply didn't load.
