While Riot is a company that manages to shit on itself all the time, the art and music department are in my opinion the best out there. They keep putting out amazing visuals and songs, so I thought I'd share the latest one, even if I know the majority of people here don't actually play the game

its like hl2rp rp docs or some hl2 sfms which are cool,

and then the actual gameplay looks nothing / feels nothing as decent so i never know the point of these ads

I see these more as a thing made for the already existing playerbase, to be quite honest, as opposed to 'an ad', especially because the only place that actually links to it is the in-game client.

people still play league?

lol
Still the biggest game, by a fat margin... so... yeah? I don't actively anymore, but that's beside the point, really.

They do, every now and then, but the chinese market alone outweighs everything else and LoL has returned to the top of PC bangs in Korea, as well as still being #1 game in china, plus there are some people who have done estimates through 3rd party addons and ripping shit from the API which some news publications did... you can google all this crap really.

Pretty sure number 2 is some random chinese game, like crossfire or something

sure?? those kinda ads are expensive I don't see a point of sating a playerbase already playing it and moreso attracting newer crowds

though I'm not their marketing team so

fucking amazing work by them again and again.

although, just a few gripes about the cine that kinda irked me
e.g idk why draven is fighting in that distance with riven, he should have been throwing his axes rather than using them like swords

these cinematics usually tend to show that the developers actually care about their playerbase, reveal lore elements, new features that are to be added and more shit like that (and in this case they went to show some of their most broken and retarded champions, irelia, akali, riven and camille)

either way

draven won

honestly i just fucking love the jhin vs camille scenes because they're the only ones that are a e s t h e t i c c as well as the only ones with real felt impact (try looking for a single speck of blood in that entire vid in other scenes and compare it to people being blown up left and right by a deranged psychopath)

Doubt

They make it flashy because it sells. The game itself is bad and they need to compensate with stuff like this and huge events paid with the money of a million people.

Flashy things bring you closer to the game and people eventually get hooked. That's about it.

Same goes with things like McDonald's, it's fucking trash but people like it because one many people go there and two they have good advertising and decent prices (not cheap in my opinion, quality is horrible and the amount of food is tiny at least for me).

But I guess if people bought Fallout 76 for €60 after knowing it was shit there's no crime in playing a F2P game you find fun, everyone has different taste after all.

Props to the art department of Rito Game though, they're pretty good at what they do.

They ain't compensating for shit lmao

Let me put this in perspective

Electronic Arts (EA) made 5.2 billion
Tencent (who owns LoL) made 35 billion

I think they're fine tbh

if the game was bad it would have never reached such popularity and it wouldn't have as many people as it currently has, many other companies use /flashy/ cinematics as well, Blizzard, EA, Ubisoft and many, many others, a simple 3 minute cinematic doesn't compensate jack shit

I think you completely missed the point.

I meant the game itself is not the best tbh, so to bring and keep players in, these kind of things prove impressively good.

Just see how everyone was screaming at Overwatch and then Blizzard released a cinematic about the story of D.Va's thighs and everyone shut their mouths and cheered them.

i don't think this cinematic was there to bring new players around, was more as to announce the new season coming out

You're looking at it the wrong way.

The game isn't bad in a sense of "unplayable" of sorts.

The game is bad because of the character balance you complained about before, and the game itself, on a code level.

Without those cinematics and such, LoL is just an average game.

But your point is wrong anyways, just because something is bad it doesn't mean it can't gain popularity.

The game is not good, according to you. LoL and Riot have done the worst marketing ever, literally only started supporting content creators (at all) in 2018, never put much funding into advertising etc etc and are the biggest game

Riot games literally mismanaged their golden egg, they never needed to do fuck all to bring players, and tbh people who think it's doomsday because a 10 year old game went from 100million monthly users to 90 million monthly users is dying are insane.

it's easy to deal with the problem of having broken champions as you can simply ban them during champion select

also i meant more as the game is popular and played, not the fallout 76 sense of popular where everyone hates it

Are you seriously telling me people advertise themselves just so the people who are already there are informed?

Friend, advertisement is made to reach more people, not to reach the people who is already there.

If they just wanted to inform people they wouldn't need to put in this kind of effort.

They don't NEED new people, but they WANT new people.

they've got shitton of cinematics, each near equally as good which bring more into the hype than this one or to act as an advertisement (K/DA *cough*)

the cinematic is literally marked as the opening of season 9 and by this day, i'm pretty sure most people know that LoL doesn't look like anything shown in these videos
