I'm really into cinematography and I watch a lot of videos on YouTube about movies. I stumbled across one talking about the 2007 film "No Country for Old Men". It's a fantastic movie to begin with but after watching this video I started to relate the two to the play style of HL2RP and the interactions I have on this server.

This world in which we spend so much time playing in does a great job of mimicking this understanding found in both the film and the world around us. Chance is always lingering in our lives. Every simple action could be thought on in the same manner of a coin toss. No matter what we do we are always faced with the chance of death. Weather you are a squeaky clean loyalist or a tough as nails rebel, you are just as vulnerable when playing the game of chance.

So why play?

Well, just as the video says, a refusal to play is an instant loss. The loss here is not being able to enjoy the wonders of the world around you. That's the trade off. In order to be able to experience the world for what its worth an participate as a breathing entity, you must at some point be able to partake in the coin toss. We all want to play but we don't want to lose. As with the understanding of life itself (nobody wants to die but everybody gets to). Regardless of morals or character position, chance operates indiscriminately at those it stumbles upon.

With all the random variables that our charters will have to wander through there is no doubt at some point there will reach there demise. But despite this same principle existing in the real world, we refuse to let risk nullify us from venturing towards any sort of reward. When a resistance member travels through daring territory, this is where the coin goes up in the air, because realistically there are two options. Either they will run into CCA personnel or they don't, heads or tails. It's that simple of a perspective.

Risk for the possibility of reward.

Call it

Yesterday I ran into a group of men near the grotto who were interested in my characters clothes, they completely surrounded me and if they wanted to they could have just jumped me and took my stuff but they didn't. It's moments like that where I'm reminded how quickly things can shift for your character if you don't do the right things or say the right words.
