Serious [Review] Art of The Week

Hey, it's been a slow week so imma let the "winning vote" be "awarded" at the end of this week instead, to allow for more entries.
For the sake of criticism though:




Nice simple and composed set of screenshots, use of default animations kinda make it look like a gameplay thing which I kinda like though I think some of the scene remains a bit empty. You got a bit of bloom coming through the trees on the left side which can usually be disabled in console or camera settings on SFM. Nice entry point to the posing way of things though, hope you make another thing soon :^).


I like this kind of comic strip vibe going on, with different times for this character going from civ to rebel or something like that. Kinda has a rugged photo look though? Kinda like it kinda don't, looks like it needs some perfection but that's just my opinion. Nice work my guy. If you want real feedback: guys hand in the first pic is totally wack, work on hands x.


This is nice but it DARK my dude, when you're working with something you want to be majorly dark I would personally always highlight the only thing in the bright just so it can be understood. So say the guy sat with the cigs on the left, shoulda upped that lights brightness a bit and maybe have it cast a shadow around the corner to the soldiers in the back. Pitch black is ok, but to really make a readable pic maybe just have a small bit of ambient lighting so atleast some of it is seen. Keep it up :^).


Cute round baby kitto in the dirt. Didn't even see the second one in the back. Love it, this is the half winner of this week purely for cats.

Pro tip. A good test for any dark scene is to load it onto your phone. If you cannot see it clearly in average conditions near a window it's likely too dark to see for much of your audience. This was the difficulty I had with the initial pic before you edited it earlier today @riscow

This is super cool! And so well drawn as well with the delicate and harsh shading that's gone with it. Especially like the side by side with and without the helmet, shows a lot of thought went into how it would mould around the head of the astronaut etc etc, nothing bad here - wish we got a colour version.

Simple and sweet scenebuild., with COD4 kinda lighting which makes it look like a convincing screen shot to be quite honest. The only way this could've gone next level could've been some depth of field on the grass and focus on the soldiers and captives y'know? Just an opinion anyways, great work :^).

Chose the one of the two that I preferred. This is very simple and thought through or so it seems that way, guessing this as the postures of the two are totally convincing. A counter attack with emotion in the faces and force in the composition of each' body. Lighting in the background is totally haunting AND the slightly blurred chain in front of the camera gives such good depth. V nice v good +rep.

BIG aesthetic from this pic and just overall great composition of the whole thing. Mega simple character portrait at it's finest and you've always been pretty decent with lighting but the console commands really take these kinda pictures to another level. Here's hoping some other people pick'em up cus lighting is important yo.

Damn, this really do be a sad boy post. Just needs some edgy text or something and a vhs texture imo. But as you say, just wallpaper material and that's really what it suits best :^). Like how the camera only picked up those lights, assuming you didn't cut anything out the pic.
