@Powley what metric are you using to gauge the security of their platform? I don't think anyone can be sure about how secure a service is without access to the code behind it.
I'm in the epic games mainframe, I reviewed their security, it's compromised by the Chinese, they steal your credit card number, your social security, and your dog's chip. Careful, fellow kids.
@Powley well there's been no reports either from haveibeenpwned or any other places which mention Epic having been breached. I'd recommend using a stronger password and enabling two-factor authentication. Most likely you used the same password as other sites which *were* breached and they found you had an account with Epic.
I do use the same password on multiple sites, although I've updated them since them. I don't really have a quarrel with Epic games at the end of the day, I just don't understand why members of this community fight tooth and nail to defend epic.
I defend Epic personally because I prefer their platform, developer tools and love to see competition in this space.
Like Zombine said though, the security thing is likely because you used that password somewhere else that did get breached and they found you had an account on Epic and tried that password. It's very common but not a fault on Epic's part.
I'm interested in a fair discussion, and I see people just piling on the hate for a competitor without really understanding the programming behind both the service they like and the one they dislike. I'm not trying to "fight" you or anyone, I was just curious as to why you considered their platform insecure.
Like I said, I've no hate for the platform, I personally think it will struggle because there's people who refuse to try different platforms, and while I'm not the biggest fan of Epic myself, I still have a few games on there, same with origin.
guess i'm gonna download the epic games launcher
because i'm not gonna let the absence of a steam version of the game remove my potential enjoyment for a sequel in a game series that i've enjoyed for sevenish years
Nah it'll be good for everyone in the long run since it seems to be leading to cheaper games and they've been getting way too expensive for the short amount of hours you get out of them now
Valve has been focused on making money via Steam, rather than making games in recent years.
Perhaps the movement from Steam to the Epic Games Launcher over time could motivate them to finally get L4D3, or Portal 3, or HL3 out
