I mean there’s a lot of different definitions of what nationalism is, but the way I see it it’s just the opposite of internationalism.

Basically, one local nation is much better at tending to the will of their own people and their needs than a distant larger government (say the EU, or even the head government of the US, as examples). Not only that bur prioritizing using a country’s budget to fix the pressing issues rather than spending it on foreign aid, pacts and etc is much more preferrable.

It’s also about every people having a nation, a place they belong to. That isn’t to say they need to stay there and can’t change their nationality or anything like that, just that each culture has a place and people that will take care of them from birth. Which is why I also support the independence (or at least autonomous rule) of different minority groups like Palestinians, Kurds, Greenlanders, Samis, etc.

A lot of people confuse nationalism, the political stance, with shit like Nazism and white nationalism, hence why I think people generally think of it as racist. But ask pretty much any Swede on this forum and they’d prolly also call themselves somewhat of a nationalist.
