I mean, in the current iteration you have to see that the uprising's been going on for about 6 months, where our groups have been fighting against eachother for 5. It'd be more uncommon to meet characters who don't know how to operate a firearm. I've done it on my cop but gradually removing that trait as I've been moving up in ranks but it makes more sense now than before

I'm sure there would have been quite a few characters that had no firearm knowledge (mine had none at least) but given how most characters have been around constant conflict for a few months now it'll be rare to see any long-standing characters still having zero experience or knowledge cause there's a few characters that've been teaching it, at least I know that was the case back in the last map

Thats true, but that can only go so far and to a certain extent. Conflict and fighting aren't in the nature of everyone, its not unusual to think those that try to avoid it wouldn't know how to use a firearm, in any case I've noticed this was still the case even when we were still in the cities way back when lol

my character knows how to use a gun because they know they are in a video game

Whenever I give a character a firearm I always ask "do you know this gun?". Never led to anything more than yes so far, but I'd love a totally inapt character that has never touched a gun before (me)

In particular I'm not trying to alienate anyone, I'm just pointing out an oddity that it's less common than it should have been back in the timeline prior to C17 going poof

I think it largely just comes down to the fact that there is a diminishing return of human experience when we translate it to our virtual medium; things that happen all the time IRL go undescribed in roleplay.

So when combat is one of the most potent catalysts in the environment to do or get anything, you typical just find yourself automatically making a character that for some reason can find their way around a firearm.
