felt the ending was the weakest link in it, went in expecting that the older mcbride would pull a "I WANT TO FIND OTHER SPECIES SO BADLY I'M GOING TO ASCEND THIS DIMENSION WITH THIS ANTIMATTER DEVICE" or related plot thread
instead it boiled down to "i was a shitty father but fuck you i'm going to FLING MYSELF INTO SPACE because i'm stubborn" and he had 0 motive to keep the antimatter engine literally cooking the surrounding station and other planets - i.e mars, the moon and earth but did so anyway.
