Note: These were created within the purview of TnB's HLNA's Combine Overwatch Transhuman Arm. I don't remember if I've posted them here before.

OVERWATCH soldiers are separated into a loose-fitting command hierarchy with a strict separation between commissioned and non-commissioned officers, and enlisted soldiers.

Combine Infantrymen

Overwatch infantrymen are properly enlisted soldiers brought into the field or city garrison after their initial period of orientation ends. Before this point, they are considered recruits and usually remain within their transhumanization facilities. Infantrymen are identified by their Infantry patches, depicting the abstract form of a kneeling man at the ready. The "head", more accurately a point identifier, defines their 'intention' -- A method of defining seniority within the position. Upon proper enlistment, a Combine Overwatch infantryman is considered Infantry, Intention I. After proving their mettle, they may be promoted to Infantry, Intention II at their local command's discretion. A large portion of the Combine Overwatch Transhuman Arm is made up of infantrymen, who may specialize in other fields (seen below).

Assuming a soldier proves their mettle in battle and shows an above-average capability in coordinating with their allies, they may ascend from their position as Infantry, Intention II into corporalship. Corporals are also divided between Intention I and Intention II, but the distinction is largely arbitrary and again only serves to show seniority and experience in the field. As an officer, corporals generally assume a leadership role in the absence of a higher-ranking officer such as an ordinal or a captain, and are permitted to order their soldiers on missions if given approval by the ordinalship. The symbol of a corporal depicts an abstractified shield: to show the corporal's purpose in ensuring the squad's survival and defense against enemies.

Combine Commissioned Officers

Although ordinary military academies do not exist in Combine society, the term "commissioned officer" is the closest approximation to the function an ordinal serves: These individuals are in charge of coordinating large masses of Combine forces within their garrison, and are responsible for the intake of new recruits, promotion of soldiers, and greenlighting of missions. As Combine cities can prove to be incredibly large in some cases, Ordinals are delegated to work in specific parts of a city depending on its size and complexity. Ordinals are commonly seasoned field leaders, and in some cases, very well-trained and seasoned corporals are inducted into the ordinalship. The Ordinal's symbol resembles that of a radio, showing their purpose of communicating between their soldiers and command.

Combine Senior Officers

Senior officers are among the highest ranks of the Transhuman Arm seen in a city. A staggering amount of them are ancient Transhuman soldiers who have been in service since the inception of the program, and thus are true military veterans that are still capable of fighting. These captains are in charge of overseeing an entire city's security, including the regions surrounding it, and thus enlist the use of ordinals as intermediaries to avoid missing any amount of information. Although captains work with ordinals -- collectively, they make up the Ordinalship together -- to handle city security, captains are also in charge of communicating their logistical supplies and needs to their superiors: This creates a large inter-city network of supply-shipping to ensure most cities are protected as well as they can be. The Captain's symbol resembles that of a pointing finger: An ideogram defining their station as handlers of large groups of soldiers.

Combine Commanders

At the other end of this daisy-chain of radios are the command offices. Operating at the highest levels, members of the command body are almost entirely made up of intelligence officers: These are the people who divert resources, coordinate large armies of Transhuman soldiers, and have the burden of ensuring every city in their respetive region operates at peak efficiency. Almost completely made up of seasoned Transhuman veterans no longer fit for battle, these soldiers are divided into two sections: Sector Command (identified with the Intention I point identifier in their symbol), and Global Command (identified with the Intention II point identifier in their symbol). Members of the Global Command (or GLO-COM) offices take in massive amounts of data and process it with the aid of technology. Members of their respective Sector Command (or SEC-COM) offices oversee a cluster of cities and their adjoining facilities and report this to Global Command. While Sector Command has an office in each respective sector, Global Command is wholly based in a city I never thought to make up because it wasn't really pertinent to the setting. It's probably the world capital.

Combine Comissioners

Handling affairs between the city administration and their bodies and the organization itself is a commissioner. The position is not unique; instead, there exists a Combine Overwatch commissioner for every city, more or less. Most commonly, these are non-transhumanized military veterans who are unable to be inducted into the organization proper due to physical limitations, but there have been cases of transhumanized commissioners taking the place of an "ordinary" one in the event of death or extraordinary service. Working with the ordinalship, the commissioner interprets the wants and needs of a city's administartion and security council to the military arm to ensure their protective requirements are met.

Formed from the merging of two other defense battalions -- the 58th LONGSWORD and 72nd MORNINGSTAR -- the 107th Stabilization Battalion is in charge of the protection of City 107.

Combine Field Certifications
While there are many infantrymen in the Combine Overwatch Transhuman Arm, many of them specialize into niche fields to satisfy tactical needs when on deployment:

- As Transhuman soldiers are more than simply flesh, combine Biotechnicians deal with the mending of synthetic flesh and augments that have been damaged in battle. Additionally, these soldiers carry a great deal of knowledge about Combine machinery as part of their certification process, and are thus capable of fixing many biotechnological pieces of Combine equipment such as terminals, forcefields, and APCs.

- Heavy weapons specialists utilize a more ergonomic variant of the Overwatch's Antibody Support Weapon to suppress enemies with a hailfire of plasma.

- OVERWATCH's headquarters host many forms of fire support -- forms that can be called in by J-TACs (or Joint-Terminal Assault Controllers) to destroy cover and cause incredible chaos... or turn the tide in the face of loss. They are equipped with a long-range radio backpack.
DeOSZqU.png
- More often than not, explosive ordnance specialists are required to rearrange architecture explosively, be it to breach doorways, clear out rubble, or destroy cover.

- The JAVELIN reconnaissance certification serves as a means to act as a reconnaissance specialist and designated marksman. Attacking from afar, they support their squad with suppressive fire and pinpoint accuracy.
