might not be the right thread to post this.
can someone help me trying to make a basic map?
I don't really know how to start.
All i know is how to put down a block(?).

id recommend that you familiarise yourself with the tools in hammer (on the left side), how to use the viewports and what the buttons on the right do and mean

here are some useful shortcuts:

z - toggle camera look

shift a - opens texture application tool

ctrl l, ctrl i (used for flipping brushes, sometimes entities work too)

don't bother learning all the buttons on the near top of hammer, they are rarely used, if ever
