Description: So we're on day 3 and there's a couple IC threads beyond the government one - the mayoral candidate one and the current affairs one. Assuming more businesses open as time goes on, it'd be handy to have somewhere for people to advertise or post things that would essentially simulate the online web for the server. I know we're planning on having a yellow pages down the line and I'm aware we have chirp but neither without considerable changes will be able to provide what the forums can give due to the short-term nature of chirp.

I know we're wanting to be more 'on server' than 'on forum' but unless you're willing to dedicate an extensive amount of time designing the code and UI to basically re-create the forums on the in-game phone, this seems like the simplest path of least resistance.

What should occur: The GTA Forum section should have a Roleplay Documents section with relevant sub-sections such as Business Advertisements, Government Information, etc.

tbh i'd rather keep as much off the forums as possible. business stuff/candidate/etc posting should always be advertised in game as it's the proper IC channels. using these forums really does blur the line heavily and it's going to result in outright metagaming. it is much easier, and clearer, to keep all of it as in game as possible, even if current systems are a bit inconvenient. I'm sorry, but I do not trust people to not metagame and I'm going to cringe IRL the second someone says in character "oh i heard about it on the forums".

just necessary government stuff and court docket stuff should be on here. the latter especially of which needs the forums for whatever OOC scheduling might be needed should court RP take off in a meaningful way.

It's impossible to do most things that require large-scale stuff on the server versus the forums as there's no permanent media on there. Chirp messages are gone after like twenty posts and while we might get yellow pages it's not going to allow us to have pseudo-websites.

If we could do it all in server, e.g: I could walk up to a computer or look on my phone or read a newspaper and it show me stuff, sure, that'd be great and I'd be all for it, but the logistics for it all would be so much more difficult and time consuming versus making a section of the forums that acts as the Internet.

It wouldn't be "I saw it on the forums", it'd be "I saw it on the internet", and if it's in a dedicated section ala HL2RP's Roleplay Documents, it's not metagaming at all.

I'd much rather advocate for greater chirp scrolling/message retention and a search feature over using these forums for in game purposes.

I don't think we need pseudo-websites or any sort of forum-like interaction in game either. People could make campaign posters and post them on chirp, people can do AMAs and shit on chirp. we could just improve upon chirp.

I just see this as legitimized metagaming. The forums are an OOC platform through and through and the last thing we should be doing is trying to effectively mandate new people who are just joining through the server browser on FiveM to join the forums. Encourage them, sure, but when we start pushing more and more shit here it becomes effectively mandated. It shouldn't exist. If it doesn't happen in game it should not be referenced at all with strict exceptions for the utmost necessary government/doj stuff (laws for example should just be readable in game, at city hall imo).

i'd also advocate for a separate phone app too. like a weazel news app that OOC approved people can post articles to with imgs. we had this on NP and it was actually cool with election information, candidate interviews, etc. and it's all in game, in character.

Then we need to add a yellow pages section

Chirp is shortform communication and temporary by design, you'd be literally changing the entire app for that.

How did you function in HL2RP?

I agree if we could do it, it'd be great, but that seems like a lot of work for little gain right now and there's definitely more important features that require development.

Then we need to add a yellow pages section
Even that I doubt would be useful unless it is very extensive. The NP yellowpages is short blurbs, not literal paragraphs/sections dedicated to things.

We want to avoid using the forum for in-character content as much as possible. There are plans to expand the chirp app to make stuff like a yellow pages app unneeded
Will there be a way to have permanent pages we can post to? For current affairs for example, I'd need a reliable place I can consistently post to for people to be able to see the updates, ideally something that can embed videos too, unless you have something else in mind?

I thought HL2RP sucked so I didn’t. This isn’t a jab at the devs but I don’t like text RP, I didn’t like the outright meta, the PK system, gmod as a game to RP on, or the setting as a whole. It wasn’t for me.

I agree if we could do it, it'd be great, but that seems like a lot of work for little gain right now and there's definitely more important features that require development.

So can we not just be patient for features to expand? Work with what we have in-game until we can get better things to work with. Advocate for changes and improvements to the game mode systems and keep advocating until either you’re told to fuck off by devs or until you’re told it will happen.

These things will come in time, it’s only the first week. A fully fleshed out news system, or elections, or social media, or whatever will come in time.

You said there’s little gain right now, so I think we can get by for now with chirp and without the forums just fine.

We'll be constantly changing priorities for dev work as the server and stories evolve. I guess I don't mind if you want to have an IC thread in the meantime, but the goal is to not have a need for such threads.

Keep in mind that we're only on day 3 - I'm glad to see lots of people are eager to do some roleplay but it's hard to balance playing on the server, collecting and organizing feedback, AND development at the same time so you'll have to bear with us if we don't get new features out as soon as you'd like them lol

Add Chirp Threads to chirp, a thread that can be updated and maintained by the assigned ID creator. Problem solved ^_^

Right now, as it stands, I cannot do Current Affairs with chirp alone, and therefore I'm using the forums for the time being.

I'd like to see that, and I absolutely get that - that's why I was offering a path of least resistance, at least in the meantime until we have the dedicated features to render the forums redundant for that kind of thing. I don't expect it any time soon, and I'm not demanding it of you - believe me, I'm not. I'm saying that, for the meantime, it'd be handy to have a 'proper place' to use.
