big if true
based astronomy posting
while we're at it
Finally some news that aren‘t 'Cop Bad'.
A confirmation that not only life exists outside of Earth, but within our own solar system would be amazing, even if its still single cell microorganisms
Who knows what the fucks going on out there

Why did they take a picture of california
I’m a bit worried yet also very interested at the same time. But I’ll be sure to place that M2 flamethrower I had an eye on for backorder
it's beautiful, but simultaneously eerie.
When I was a kid I had a huge interest in space, and I remember staring for hours up at the night sky wandering what was going on out there
Seeing stuff like this brings me back to those times, and despite the common trope of how small we are and blah blah blah, news like this on the various pieces on exoplanets and black holes we've seen over the past few years and whatever else makes me feel like a kid again, looking up to the night sky and wondering what more there is beyond the confines of our little world
then twitter or reddit or one of my various news apps goes off and I'm brought right back down to Earth
And wired security cameras be pixelated AF
So when do we get to bang Turians??
so many things fuck me up about the idea of alien life, but the main thing is probably the language barrier
like there are 6500+ languages spoken across earth and we are fucking tiny compared to other planets
and like what if they don't speak? or if they don't have facial expressions? or like, they don't communicate using hands/physical motion??
my brain hurts
It all depends on just how different their planet is to our own. If it has similar conditions to Earth, then you could assume that even if the exact evolutionary paths are different, there are similarities (e.g. exoskeleton to endoskeleton, from-water-to-land, coldblooded to warmblooded. and so on to an ever-varying degree) that would then bring about different, but similar means of communications (smell, sound, gestures).
butt sniffing is in then?
what's mental is that there could be intelligent life thousands of lightyears away looking at earth but they'll still be seeing dinosaurs or prehuman life instead of what we have today
same thing with us, we're probably looking at habitable planets far away that in the present have life like us, we just can't see it yet
If there's a species with such a trait that can rise into a level of sapience to try and communicate with us, maybe?
i find it likely their experience of life is completely and utterly different from ours in every single way. communication would be like trying to plug a flash drive into a rotary phone
if we do find life, wonder what it would be like if we found it is older or younger than us
