What's it like?

Dunno.

Sarcasm aside, it's very rewarding as long as you have the right characteristics that suit the job requirements and needs, although there is areas for development in every sector you go, traffic, firearms, community-based projects, neighbourhood policing, investigations.

is there a defecit in the uk for police? also what's the pay like

Pay is shit when you start, it only becomes "livable" (Where you could actually afford a place to stay, food and bills) money once you progress past your probation and start taking on more jobs, there is a defecit for sure, in terms of equipment and bodies. On average in the UK is around 1 Police officer to 600-700 people; although this doesn't exactly mean working staff who are out "on the beat."

I blame Theresa May.

At what educational stage did you start applying for the initial job, and how high would you say the entry barriers are?

Did you consider military service instead of policing at any point in time?

There was very little in terms of educational requirement to join the police when I did, I did the simple, school, college work routine. Sadly, in the upcoming years you will require a university education (level 4 or above) within the UK to even be considered for a role within the police.

Considered, couldn't due to my eyesight.

i was thinking of becoming a police officer but dropped out during the college public services classes cause of having child-hood bullies in those same classes (god i hope they don't become police)

how long did it take for you to get to the point you are now, how long do you have left to go before you would consider yourself a fully fledged police officer.

How do you deal with the stress/pressure of highly intense scenarios like a murder scene, robbery with violence involved (tending to the victims) or showing up on a crime scene where someone's found dead for example.

Do you seek counselling, talk to fellow officers/family or what do you to deal with it? If any of that ever happened to you (going off the worst case you remember off the bat)

Most bullies become police, you have to be able to take the banter to be a part of the banter. This is just a fair warning. It took me only six months to pass my probation and get independent status. The rest has been spent learning and pushing myself forward into new areas.

Being a police officer requires a good character, it isn't for everyone, and there is no real way to prepare for what you see, it's only the aftercare and your view on it.

Desenistation is something that's very frowned upon as if you ever feel like you're in a situation where you get aggressive or "Why the fuck didn't you just do this" tone towards a victim, you should pull yourself out of a job. Mental health is something the British Police work very well on, we have loads of courses, activities and most important help available to all those who feel that something is getting to them.

To bring around a small story, I recently brought out a new special constable around the age of 19, he's only been on shift for around a week, and I was performing a welfare check on someone, he knew everything, he was smart, happy and excited to do the job. We opened the door and started to walk around and we found two children, sitting on the sofa crying their eyes out. One of them ran towards him and took him towards the Kitchen to where their Dad had suffered from a heart attack and neither of them knew what to do or how to handle it. He had been dead for around an hour before we got there.

I had never seen someone go so pale within a matter of seconds. I ended up sending him out towards the car and had a colleague watch over him while I handled the situation. I ended up taking down and back to the station to talk about what had happened and went over the full course on him and referred him to our mental health time for his own welfare. We take it very seriously.

If you are ever interested in charity work, I highly suggest you look into https://www.ptsd999.org.uk/ and give it some support.

I specialise in domestics, I'm currently in Neighbourhoods but did my stint in response.

Oh you're an NBO. In my Constabulary, if you go to the Neighbourhood you rarely get an outing into something else. I'm a Response Officer and Public Order Medic!

So you an NBO by choice?, How long you been in?
Oh, and what's the most ridiculous Neighbourhood Job you've had.

When I was in a neighborhood detachment from Response, I found it more relaxing to the busyness of Response, I was posted to my Town center and it was mainly ASB related jobs.

I'll tell you the last one I went to though when I did that detachment, it was called in by a PCSO to us on Point to Point and it was of some lad outside the Police Station in the gardens (dumb as fuck) dealing out Class B. So we go up to him me and my colleague at the time and Stop Search Under S.23 MoDA, and he gives it the usual "You need a warrant fam", as soon as we say that's not how it works, he legs it, luckily though we caught him because he tripped over the curb lol. Whilst we could have gotten him for PWITS, he only admitted to possession because it'd have been stuck in our workload for years otherwise.

My workload is currently 48 jobs. ( I think, didn't check it last shift. )

me no happy

Also, for those reading S.23 MoDA is the Misuse of drugs act, commonly used under stop and searched with PACE powers, as in, if we suspect you're dealing drugs, we're stopping you.

I've been in Neighbourhoods for quite some time but I still do work response as I like to be kept on my toes whenever I can, we have that ability where I am. I am public order trained but I haven't had the chance to go out and beat people with my get-well-stick.

There are so many to count when it comes to Neighbourhoods but I will one hundred percent say it was the sex dungeon / Cannabis factory raid. I'm pretty sure you can imagine it just by that title how it went.

Also come back to traders dingus

What's your perspective on illegal substances being attacked in the war of drugs whilst they are being researched to having great medical benefits (marijuana, mdma, lsd) and if they should remain illegal/criminalized?

Personally, the law is the law and us enforce it but discretion comes and goes. I do see the medical benefits and I'd love to see it legalised but usually, if someone is selling say weed, they are most likely selling anything they can get their hands on.

Let alone, if it becomes legal it would be taxed as fuuuuuuuuuuck.

If I see three teenagers smoking it in the middle of a park at night, you just come along, take it, destroy it and log it rather than bringing them all in for possession. It's about effective policing, not being a prick.
