While still under a term of media, I’ve found myself associating a few songs from the genre to half life more specifically from the band muse. It’s the lyrics that seem very coincidentally having the views of the resistance and it makes me think of that Barney scene at the start (don’t think that’s a spoiler) Judge for yourself but here are the two I believe are the most fitting.

(Skip to 1:10 to skip music Intro)

eh Muse just write lyrics about aliens and sci-fi conspiracies so of course that's going to line up with the general theme of half-life

While I appreciate you’re entitlement to your opinion I disclosed that the aim of the post was to compare the contents of the two songs rather than stating your opinion on the genre. If you’d like to express your opinion on “alternate rock” I’d suggest making a post on it? Just a little food for thought :grinning:

Idk what of the stuff I listen to could be called alt-rock as it's a pretty broad genre. If you go by alt-rock as in "anything rock that isn't mainstream" then I'd have to post most of my playlist. But like, Muse is far from not being mainstream anymore so idk.

it's basically the same as alt metal in

taking from multiple genres and influences and running it through a rock orientated structure/unconventional structure to see what sticks

it was just a term corporations and music media outlets used to keep rephrasing during the 80s/90s to capitalize on something that would unfortunately become a trend just like what happened to alt metal during the late 90s/00s as both genres withered and died as the mainstream continued to milk it for all it's worth

which is what is happening with hip hop/rap at the moment with the new trap craze as the dying old music industry rinse and repeats itself for nearly a century now to milk whatever they can and overpopulate and saturate the fucking market with "new" and "innovative" artists

    fake news

music snobs shit on everything they don't like without listening to it and try to force people not to listen to said artists

I listen to everything and stated the fact since they have changed genres that has nothing to do with being "alternative" or alt rock at all as they aren't really much alternative to what's on the mainstream rock charts

I honestly didn't see THAT much wrong with what he said about alt-rock. It's at the very least a fact that major labels like/liked to slap an alt-rock label on everything to make it seem more "authentic" e.g. 90's grunge music. Same with indie.

at the end of the day alt rock died because everyone wanted to be famous and sound like nirvana/soundgarden/pearl jam or fucking alice in chains, specially with the acoustics and dual harmony vocals

pretty much what happens to a genre at some point or another when a select few release masterpieces that become a big commercial success and the music industry start pushing scrapping the barrel to find a band or individual to be the "next big thing"

which pretty much happened to synth/crossover orientated rock during the previous era as that died pretty much a quarter timeline of alt rock did as well as the big landfill the pop punk 90s/00s and indie rock and post punk of the 00s whilst 10s pop rock is still going strong for whatever reason
