After multiple out-cry from multiple people, the U.K government has agreed to set up a plan for "feed the kids" in which £30 worth of meals would be given to each house hold for school intended to last for ten days, the result has been more than disappointing, with seemingly only £5 being spent. The U.K government gave this money and duty to a company that deals with private school lunches, called Chartwell Independent, to a parent company of Compass Group, it is estimated that due to skimping out on the meals, they made roughly 2.5 billion quid which likely will be donated back to the Tory party (leading UK party) which is in line of their previous donations to the group. These meals are supposed to come to £30 which was budgeted to these groups, roughly $50 CAD, 40 USD, 33.50 Euro, 341.15 Swedish Krona, etc Different areas were left in different the hands of different companies, thus explaining the varying food.
when will they learn that unless it's a (viable, non-corrupt) non-profit doing it, projects like these will only about gifting people en-masse and deflecting/absorbing the PR that's exactly why these companies are established and then given 'convenient' grants to begin with
Ngl this actually looks better then the shit they fed us in the states I would’ve been better off eating the styrofoam fuckin plates they gave us
why are you mfers getting raw potatos and shit it its a school meal are you expected to prepare it at home or what
... or you get a daily money allowance if your house income is under a certain amount which in most schools is enough for a roast dinner or equivalent at lunch time
this seems like very little food for 30£ though? its like a loaf of bread, a can of beans and some random vegetables and some bananas and a carton of milk idk how much groceries cost in the UK but at that point couldnt you get something way better/cheaper from a store
bojo already tweeted saying its under the standard they set and that they're auditing it to see whats going on this also isnt the only thing families are getting and its scummy to pretend it is. if this was the only thing people were surviving on the death rate from malnutrition would be much more of a worry than covid
it is very little food for £30 the company that got given the duty along with the money decided to pocket £25 of it and only use £5 of it this picture is about £20 worth of stuff from a super market, as reference. this picture is how the welsh councils have dealt with it in areas near where i was born, since it wasn't placed in the hands of a different company with nothing but profit on mind
did that last summer, apparently loads of people were spending it in bookies or on cigs/alcohol. dont know if thats the reason why
think they fear that people will spend it on drugs or luxuries and also because then it's harder for private companies to pocket it
