What's the drama with Nvidia?

I got the 40 Series cards are really expensive but people are saying that it's just a continuation of the shitshow Nvidia's suffering from rn.
Can someone explain it to me like I'm five pls?

I don’t see a point in getting a 40 series card with how the 30 series performs.

Most new games run extremely well on the 30 series cards - it’s the same thing as apple releasing a new iphone when you have the one that came before it - why bother.

Company needs money to continue, so they’ll keep pushing out products even if it doesn’t have a huge jump in performance.
