So today new PC parts arrived and my friend came over to build it for me

Long story short when we plugged everything in and tried to turn it on. It did, but only a split second before turning back off again. Neither of us have any fucking idea what’s happened or what’s going on. It just turns on and right back off.

Gigabyte B365M DS3H
Intel I5-7400
A 600W PSU
Radeon 5500 XT 8gb
Cooler Master 212 black

plus some case. Everything appears to be in the right place but I’m just way too fucking done. I know literally nothing and I really would like some help

Unless some wiring is plugged in some weird way, the power supply being a bit fucky is the best bet. Although I am not an expert, it doesn't sound like it could be many other things

Check your CPU temperature, your cooler, is it installed correctly?

Yeah I’ve got the ram installed

It’s in and he put the paste in.

I removed the card when I saw a light. you can barely see it but I circled it

No idea what that means, if anything

Can you even boot to the BIOS?

Does the computer beep on startup? If so, which pattern?

If it doesn't beep, it can be a multitude of things - Most common ones are defective PSU, or...

Insufficient Voltage for the GF Card

It is very common to forget to plug the extra power supoly cables that go directly to the GFC. Did you plug the 12V cable to the GFC?

For the beep. I don’t really hear so much a actual beep, as it’s probably the thing tryna start but I hear a slight “ehh” sorta sounding

As for the other cables I dunno what that is honestly. I’m shit at this

Graphics card should have some sort of socket on one of the corners, like... 8-pin maybe? That's necessary

The card has its cord in correct. I doubt it’s that
If computer isn't even reaching POST (the beeps), there's power missing somewhere. Could be any of the pins, could be the PSU... Can't really tell exactly if I'm not hands on

I’ve checked all the pins and they’re in correctly. The CPU fan is on good, the PSU has its shit all setup

I’ll try and call one of my local shops to see if I can bring it in tomorrow

The most logical course of action here would be removing all components bar the motherboard and PSU, seeing if that can boot, then adding them one by one until you discover which one causes the failure
However, one thing caught my attention
A 600W PSU
What does that mean, "a PSU"? What company made it? If it's some Chinese no-name then there's your culprit
Look up PSU blacklists and check if your manufacturer's there
Borrow your friend's PSU (assuming it's a good one, with certificates and shit) to determine if your motherboard wasn't somehow damaged (during the assembly or transport)

You sure all the parts are rated for the level of max wattage your power supply can issue?

Sounds like you either have a defective motherboard, a shitty PSU or you're simply 'overloading' the PSU by forcing it to power more components than it's rated for.

I just removed the PSU from my other PC, plugged in the 24 prong dude into the MB and plugged it in...

It worked, as in the CPU fan began to spin and kept spinning until I unplugged the PSU

I just wasted $80 on a PSU that was DOA. At least I got my issue solved
