Description: Add a Compass item to the Hardware store so we can have the GPS Minimap on foot when not inside a vehicle.

image.png

Why it would be worth adding: Helps navigation on foot.

Requirements: Development work.

I guarantee if those who are new put in just the slightest bit of effort they’ll figure out where they’re going very quickly and overall it will be better for you to learn how to get around without a persistent GPS being in the corner of your screen all the time.

It’s what, going onto day 4 now? Literally just give it time. So what you’re pausing to look at your map every five minutes. A week from now you’ll barely be touching it and you’ll be going “oh wow demonelite and boots was on to something, this isn’t so bad”.

I still remember when boots was a fresh little gta RP baby getting into nopixel for the first time. Soft, gentle, yet so eager and hungry to learn. Now he’s all grown up, I’m so proud :’)

Or, much like in real life, I'll know the beaten path and literally no fucking where else and will have to pull up my phone every time I'm going somewhere.

Answer me this: when you get in a car, do you put a waypoint down or do you just drive off?

Legit this, you learn the map so fast especially when you don't have it in your face all the time, it really forces you to learn it and it's way more fun.

That shit ruins immersion soo fast, I don't want to think that I'm playing GTA, I want to be in-character and RP bruh

Just drive off because I’m not navigationally deficient and know my way around the town I live in.

I’ve traversed Boston on foot without a phone.

This is gonna be one of those threads where people build up resentment against one another and they will just hate each other from then on so just let the devs decide but I like it the way it is and I think they do too, they went out of their way to make it like this and once you get used to it it's better.

Also @Aether I don't typically need to mark my map to know where I'm going. If you ever get into a chase you're not going to have time to mark the location anyway.

Literally just play the game and you'll start recognising land marks.

In a chase you don't have a definitive location to mark anyway, you're literally trying to follow something with your eyes, and as for the map marker I'm very much surprised.

Except when cops call out a landmark over the radio and you don't know where it is.

But I was talking in the opposite sense that if you ever get chased. Jeez I don't know how these crims can get away if they don't mark where they wanna go on the map!!

On the server I literally just go.

I just zoom, I don’t look at the GPS. Anyone whose been in my taxi knows I just ignore the GPS lmao.
Sounds horrible tbh

It takes literally two seconds to drop a marker, and if you're the one being chased, I'm pretty sure you're mostly just going in any direction the cops aren't versus trying to go to a specific location.

If you have anything of a lead on the cops, those two seconds will have them right back on your tail so no, you don't have time. And if I were to get chased, there are spots where it's easy to lose them so again, no you don't go in any random direction.

Based GTA RP chads vs virgin GMod HL2RP Andy’s

Sounds horrible tbh

Not really, when you genuinely put in the effort you’ll find it’s more fun, engaging, and immersive playing without a constant minimap being there. But that requires you to put the slightest bit of effort in. I know my way around the map because I took the time to figure out landmarks and navigate from there.

Just put the effort in and try. You’ll find it’s better for you, and everyone else in the long run.

Okay before I wasn't with the "you're literally just gatekeeping" argument but now I actually am. I've literally been playing the server around the clock lmao so fuck off with the "put the effort in".

Just because you want everyone else to conform to your "just memorise the whole map guys it's SO EASY" mentality doesn't mean it's right. Don't like it? Don't use it. Turn off your UI entirely in the settings and live like that if you want, but don't push that on other people for something you wouldn't be forced to do.

I mean the simple point is just make it optional, some people don't have the time to memorise a whole video game map, nor do they have the brain space to keep it there when they may have more important things going on in their life. Some people just want to roleplay fun things, not getting virtually lost every time you turn a corner

You're acting like there's no map at all. You have a GPS when you're in the car, and you can press escape to check when you're on foot.

If you make it optional then you are forcing everybody who wants it off to turn it on just because they will otherwise be at a disadvantage.

But rn it not being optional is a disadvantage to the people who dont have the time to learn the map so its just a lose lose mate, idk why this is slowly turning into like a 5 page argument

If people stop sitting at burger shot all day maybe they’ll know where they’re going.

GPS on foot is dumb, goofy, and AIDS and it shouldn’t exist. Just adapt and overcome, learn landmarks. You don’t need to be handheld by a GPS that you won’t actually need in a week.

If they have time to roleplay they have time to learn the map, these things generally work hand in hand at the very same time.

But you’re right, why are we debating again the validity of a GPS on foot? We had this same debate a long time ago and we’re still here without having a GPS on foot. The decision was made awhile back.

You're acting like there's no map at all. You have a GPS when you're in the car, and you can press escape to check when you're on foot.
And as others have said - having to repeatedly open the map to check you're going the right way is frustrating.

If you make it optional then you are forcing everybody who wants it off to turn it on just because they will otherwise be at a disadvantage.
If it's a buyable item or an app, you don't have to turn it off - you just don't turn it on or buy the item.

If people stop sitting at burger shot all day maybe they’ll know where they’re going.
"maybe if people stop roleplaying at the roleplay hub and instead aimlessly roam the map alone, maybe they'll be able to remember every street"

Stop referring to things as "AIDS" for one, that's really not okay.
