Hello.

This is your intended soapbox for discussion - as of now, the NG has been a little quiet in a few ways. Both inward, and outward - seeking approval for basic actions, and worrying of intended consequences has stymied a bit of roleplay.

Let's settle that.

Lemme hear it.

why yes i DID make this thread after talking to other players in the cop faction when under nlr why did u ask

current things seem to be

-inaction
-inactivity
-inactivity of leader-roles
-players constantly not knowing what to do
-players not having the confidence to commit to their actions without worry
-players expecting military rp when it's just a new flavour of cops

that's about it from my end

the only complaints I have at the moment are the inactivity and, to some degree, the quality of roleplay

I'm trying to be more active personally but my pc almost had a hard drive failure just for attempting to join the server lol.

Some members act piss poor, in terms of bringing roleplay to a scenario. A little too quick to just jump the gun and just s2k in my opinion as well as certain borderline minge behavior.

I still have no idea what our IC objectives are/Laws of the city. I might have just missed a brief but still, there's very little info on the discord/forums to reference.

I enjoy the concept, but radio silence from supposed leads ain't fun.

I think a better model would help fix this mentality. Monkey see green camo, monkey think army.

Currently, my main issue with the NG is from an IC perspective. I mean, these guys have tanks, equipment and numbers but the common theme seems to be they all get wiped when shit goes wrong. Now I'm the last person to throw shit over being bad at s2k, but, maybe some events where NG get a chance to do their jobs well, show people they can do something other than get "shotcopped" when stood in front of the PD.

I remember the hospital event, a very major attack on the city which was a prime chance to show the force of NG, and how it was mostly rebels who pushed in and met the combat head on, while a most of NG seemed to hold back (From IC tellings, could be wrong. Though, I saw no NG on the floor I was on when in combat).

So TLDR;
- Maybe better models that don't make people auto assume army?
- More events where NG have a chance to show they have "force".

pushing a doorway that's covered by a squad of cops, whilst having no grenades, in s2rp, is easier said than done

Tbh I thought that was supposed to be what the NG is, people who love to be jackasses to the people living in Bucharest, but are cowards in reality.

Although that doesn’t really fit the fact that they're really supposed to be brutal suppressors on par with metrocops

flank

cause a distraction

find another entrance

i checked the hospital beforehand, there is no way to flank, no other entrances for the top floor aside from an elevator that's near the doorway they're holding

It's litterally an army though. I keep seeing a few people bring this up and we've addressed it.

It almost seems like it would've made more sense for the NG to have been the Bucharest Police Or something and have them geared like riot cops because alot of people seem to think that is what the NG is when in reality it's a hybrid of a Militia undertaking gendarmerie duties.

alot of that stemmed from people getting nervous there's more cops upstairs before all of you fled there. When our Sargeant died, me and Anton tried to make best out of a poorly executed rescue operation and organized the NG and rebels to eradicate you guys. I was actually the one who allowed the rebels to aid us during the Hospital Massacre.

If I was in full command, I would've sent half of the team to barricade the top floor and swallow you guys whole. You pretty much outdone everyone in that moment, ngl.

Yeah, I was the sole person standing guard in front of the hospital and a dozen or more armed rebels showed up, not much I could do but let them in especially considering most of them just walked past me

If the NG do nothing, people will complain that the NG does nothing
The NG goes around and actively hinder the combine at every given moment, the cops would complain

If the NG goes around and actually enforces the Cities laws and oppresses the rebels, the Rebels would actively complain - It's almost like no one actually wants the NG on the map. And with that I say the guard should double down its efforts to piss off rebels. They shouldn't be the good guys, just a load of thugs employed by a corrupt government. Confiscate weapons and equipment from rebels, issue fines for dumb shit just to embezzle themselves. Wearing any form of Hazard equipment (Gas mask) that isn't Infestation Crew certified is an instant arrest on suspicion of going to the QZ. Going into QZ is grounds for instant execution - can't risk another outbreak. No more open carry - y'all can't be trusted, the GUARD is here to protect you (smiley face). If you're skin is green, you better keep those arms down otherwise it's classed as a threat - Magic is strictly prohibited from being used in any way shape or form.

Give people a real reason to hate the guard, give guard the ability to just be absolute cunts (Leading to more shootouts and opportunity for the Guild to offer more lucrative employment to those resentful). And maybe later give rebels the chance to fully cripple them - raid their store rooms. Idk i'm not an event guy.

National Guard exists in a precarious position where it is seemingly designed to be an antagonistic force, but in practice, it would lead to utter chaos. Though it's not just them, this map has definitely thrown a curveball in many ways.

Take the dynamic of rebels and Combine as an example. For the past several setpieces, they've inhabited the opposite ends of any given map, and for a good reason. It typically means that people have to go out of their way to antagonize the opposing side in whatever way possible.

But here in Bucharest? Rebels and National Guard both occupy the same spaces, all the while Combine could pop out from a number of interspersed locations across the same area. Setting Combine aside for a moment, if rebels and NG relations develop into open hostilities, it could lead to some pretty messy scenarios where RP gets interrupted by s2k.

Maybe that's by design. NG signs up to be antagonized by rebels, and rebels wearing gear means they want to be antagonized by NG. Or something like that?
Perhaps I am being too pessimistic, however. Could be that I'm out of touch with the larger interfactional friction due to never being super involved in it from a human character standpoint.
