Tom Baker and David Tennant are the cornerstones of Doctor Who.

Noone else will do.

I massively agree but tom baker was before my time so I never got the proper connection to his doctor

Understandable. My first doctor was Tennant, so I emotionally see him as the main image of the doctor

My first was Eccelston with the 2005 reboot (that I started watching with my parents on holiday as nothing else was on at the time) but because he was only around for one season I never really got attached to him (but he had some good episodes). I've enjoyed all the proceeding ones though, all of whom are very good actors in their own rights.

With me having gotten into the Big Finish audiobooks fairly recently (they have ones for every Doctor, most of which are voiced by the actual actors and are all canon) though I'd definitely have to say Eight, Paul McGann, is my favorite. Although he was relegated to one TV movie prior to the licensed audiobooks getting his actor to voice them starting in 2000 and his 2013 mini-prequel the actual show made for that special episode there's just something about him that's immensely enjoyable as a Doctor, and thus far from what I've listened to he has a really interesting arc.

Also I love his theme.

I've got a geographical bias towards Tennant since he comes from my town. He also was pretty funny as The Doctor as well, more so than recent doctors have been...

To be fair though you don't always need to be funny when you have acting like this...

I dropped off after Clara became the doctor's companion with Smith since I found her monotonous. I think Tennant really balanced the comedic, care free doctor and the serious time traveller really well.

DW is sick, I wonder if the redditor manchildren will continue to bitch and moan about her being female throughout the series

Eccelston was more of a depressive angry Doctor than anything tbh. He wasn't really all that care-free imo
He had his moments of being care free and happy but it makes sense he's depressive something something time war something something genocideing his entire species

Really? I thought Eccelston did that so much better
Eccelston sometimes did things that were too daft, to me personally and there were times where there was too much of a shift between the two personalities.

There's a lot of serious Tennant episodes I can think of that really left a lasting impression on me. Silence in the library, don't blink and that one where they're on the bus in the crystal planet come to mind where even in such situations he still found a light at the end of the tunnel and provided some comedy gold.

Those episodes you mentioned are the reason he's a close second to my favourite but something about how Eccelston was draws me to him

capaldi can play the role so effortlessly, that with his doctor also being quirky, funny and also a great orator is what makes him my favourite. weird really a couple of years back i was contempt that tennant wouldn't ever be outclassed as my favourite
