fucking weird to think valve went “think we can make a story out of that security guard you see for 10 seconds at the tram ride?” and made BS like 3 years later
the story was so interesting that I never played that shit before joining and it took me from 2013-2018 to finally force myself through it just so I could say I played it
and that’s only because I had someone to play it with on synergy
I mean laidlaw has purposely left a lot if shit out and that can either be inferred in two ways: either he's pulling a "you have to have a very high iq to under stand rick and morty life 2" or he's just been bullshitting us for X many years
yea i can agree that the beta had some pretty interesting concepts but if we want to talk about boring lore one need not to look further than the exhaustingly grimdark setting that was the HL2 beta.
Beta lore has Its ups and downs, if you dig deep enough you can find some really cool shit like living particle storms. At times it does feel like a 1984 rip off ye but id still take it over release because it isn’t ENTIRELY flavorless
idk, ive been inferring off of microscopic evidence in the retail game for so many years that i could draw out an entire red string map on a corkboard of how dynamic and complex i think the hl2 retail universe is,
but at the end of the day there wasnt a lot supplied in HL2 as far as worldbuilding went because they wanted everything to be experienced through the game so if it hadnt been presented yet they'd simply hold onto it until they could find a place to put it (optimistic x1 as i glance at hl3)
hence why we have had to rely on inference and why the nature of the story has been such a matter of debate/why nearly every HL2-RP server is different lore wise.
