Never wrote fanfic ever. There are some decent ones out there, but most of it is trash. Fanfic writers tend to fall into the trap that the subject does a lot of the work for the writer (characters, plot, world building). They take granted that the reference holds most of the weight rather than the superb writing.

Rather then taking risks and writing to improve, they write for ego-fulfillment.
