I don't tend to add too much gore in my poses, but in the past I had used this.
Pretty sure the SBMP/TheMask packs have some blood splatter props too.

Tip wise; a bad/weird looking injury can ruin a whole picture so it's all about composition, just spend time on it I guess.

I export in 2560x1080 just because that's my monitor resolution, and no the trees are props but I usually stuff bushes in them to make them look more dense with leaves.
