fia has literally been in favor of Mercedes at almost every turn, Mercedes fans keep coping
It went both ways today. First lap was ridiculous that Hamilton didn’t have to at very least reduce the gap significantly or give the place back. Last lap was a crazy twist of trying to have one final lap of racing that massively advantaged Max.

Thank fuck we got a winner with an ounce of personality.

the top two teams, mercedes and red bull have been battling it out the entire season, their top drivers are lewis hamilton (who drives for mercedes, who has dominated f1 for the past 8 years), a seven time world champion, who fought against max verstappen (red bull), a fairly new driver who was going for the world championship, both are amazingly talented drivers

entire season culminated to the final race where both drivers were on completely equal standings, literally same points, and tensions have been building between the two teams and their fans for a couple of races now

usually by this point the championship would've already been decided since somebody would hold a significant advantage in points this far into the season (for comparison the last time the top two drivers had equal points was in 1974), and it literally came down to the last lap

In the first lap, Hamilton went significantly out of track bounds around turn 5 I believe(?) when Verstappen tried to overtake him, leading to him getting back onto the track ahead and with a significant lead, which was a huge blow to red bull, usually in that case drivers would return their position but the governing body decided no investigation was necessary (this was the first controvesy and benefitted mercedes)

Hamilton proceeded to lead the rest of the race, during the entire race a bunch of drivers had a lot of technical issues, and ~5 laps from the end a driver for Williams, Nicholas Latifi crashed out in a particularly risky area after battling another driver leading to a safety car being deployed (this means drivers need to slow down massively and cant overtake for however long its out for) so they can clean up the mess

The second controversy comes in when on the final lap, previously lapped cars (aka ones that had been passed by others) stood inbetween Verstappen and Hamilton, usually in this case cars would return to their proper positions (they would go behind the leading cars) but if that would happen the race would have ended under a safety car since it'd take significantly longer for them to re-arrange, so the governing body decided that the lapped cars between Hamilton and Verstapped (of which there were around five) should overtake the safety car, meaning that Verstappen caught up to Hamilton who held a fairly large lead for the duration of the race, this of course benefitted red bull

Hamilton at this point had been driving with very old tires, meaning that he was going significantly slower due to their wear than Verstappen who had just went through a pit stop a lap prior meaning he had fresher tires, once the safety car exited the track and racing resumed Verstappen overtook Hamilton and won the race in the final lap

This might be one of my all time favourite F1 clips, Horner shouting at the screens for his driver giving it everything.

f1 community more toxic then nebulous when rebels win an event
