I suggest you find some kind of skill you wanna specialise in to earn money (Mining, cooking, fishing, runecrafting, woodcutting, etc) and also pick a 'combat' skill you wanna specialise in (Attack, Magic, Ranged).

If you're just looking for a 1-track goal, pick a skill and get it to 99. You'll get a cool cape.

Depending on your taste and/or wishing to do something in free time, runescape can be either a garbage or perfect choice.

If you plan on /playing/ the game, pay attention and do something that you just can't do when you look away, like fighting a boss, or a click-intensive skill. Most of the time though, you're literally going to be spending - and I fucking mean it - 5% of your attention on runescape as you watch netflix or play an entirely different game. I've stopped mid-round in apex to empty my inventory of fish to keep fishing, paused mobility mod to eat salmon when afking moss giants, etc.

Don't ever get used to F2P. I played runescape back in the early days and I can honestly say that when I bought membership on a one-week-old account, it changes fucking everything. No membership is literally a trial, getting some skills to 99 in f2p can take dozens of extra hours, and is generally more click-intensive and bullshit since you can't just hop to an empty world due to there only being a certain amount of F2P worlds. Most of the time, you can find one where you'll have room, though. Also, membership is just $11, or you can go to gamestop and buy a runescape card for $10 and get 25 days of membership.

Fishing, firemaking, and mining (probably others) have sets of clothing you can acquire that boost your XP gains, usually by a max of 2.5% when worn altogether. This is a bigger difference than you think, considering...

92 is half of 99.

99 is 13 million XP.

But this does, however, change as you level - mining was made incredibly afk with the addition of motherlode mine, which I sat in for most of my 25 days of membership mining all the way to 72. 72 in MLM means I can use the upper portion of the mine (with a 100 gold nugget one-time fee, of course) and it makes the veins time-based instead of disappearing by RNG on each mined ore. I'm telling you this because many skills get easier to afk as time goes on - some are always autism (agility) but some are chill as fuck, like zeah runecrafting.

Also, you aren't fully expected or have to 99 most skills - combat, of course, is great to have for doing endgame shits, but there's literally no reason to be 99 in runecrafting. Most skills stop giving you bonuses at a point - at 92 mining, you can mine amethyst, which is the last unlock for mining, so the rest of the levels are pointless beyond getting a mining cape/max cape. However, at 99 smithing you can make rune platebodies, so not all skills follow this.

Also, runescape is the pinnacle of concentrated autism. Any skill you have has been broken down to a science, with charts giving you full readouts on XP per hour on specific methods, as well as a time to 99.

247 hours to 99 fishing. wew

Also, many guides you read will assume many things about you. Agility, for instance, increases your run recharge rate - many guides will assume you have 99 agi, are wearing full graceful set (an armor set that reduces current weight, and can bring you to negative weight, increasing your run charge speed further) and have minimal downtime and click when you have to, without missing a beat. This is fine

Making money is as simple as slayer/high combat, as well. You could mine in MLM for days to get coal and sell it, or fight bosses for a few hours and get millions.

additionally, if you do buy membership (which you should ASAP so you don't get dabbed on by shittier grinds or gates spitting at you for not having it and locking you in a smaller map area) you will have a much more enjoyable time, since you won't be on a f2p world with a bunch of idiots/scammers.

At its core, runescape is an explorable, laid-back experience that you can flick your autism on and spend time grinding to master something if you want, or just go hit goblins and read silly quest text.

btw many quests give you xp for certain things and many of the minigames outright are the easiest/most fun way to grind xp in certain skills

and by the way, don't fucking trust a single goddamned person. ever. every trade is a scam, regardless of how good it sounds. every "subscribe to my yt channel" is a scam. every offer is a scam. every doubler is (usually) a scam. I say usually because it's a grooming mechanic - give someone 20k, they double it to 40 and give it back. Give someone 40k, they double to 80. Give them 80, they double to 160. By this point, you're clicking accept so fast you just want your doubled money, and they switch it out on you and you mash accept, losing it all anyways.

don't trust a single goddamned person in any way, shape, or form, regardless of how little you have on you/your account.

and fucking use runelite it makes so much shit so much easier, the base fucking runescape client doesn't have any GPU rendering whatsoever, may as well be emulating a DOS pc

the game is just fucking rife with content that was added to make grinding skills easier/make specific resources easier to get (looking at you, coal trucks) but then Jagex will just add something later that completely defuncts it ((motherlode mine, where mining coal doesn't take 8 fucking seconds a piece)) and the end result is areas that are largely ignored/deserted, for good reason. ou can literally kill a boss and get 1k iron ore. the fuck
