like i’ve spent OVER A FUCKING HOUR trying to join the server WHY does this HAPPEN

i sit through obscenely long loading times then
either i time out twice

or i get in but instantly it says “CONNECTION LOST” in the top right corner and i need to try again

EVERY TIME

You got your gmod on a SSD?

Got crazy amount of addons?

Delete your downloads folder in your garrys mod directory

Delete your local files of addons you've unsubscribed from

i’ll give it a go

but meanwhile

have this time lapse taken over 30 minutes from when i just tried to connect

If you already have all the content downloaded, you can try disallow downloading of any custom files and see if it lets you join?

Settings -> Multiplayer

Select "Do not download any custom files". This should help if it's getting stuck while trying to download something (I can't tell what stage it's on in the video).

Clean your gmod cache in GarrysMod/garrysmod/cache

Even though, it's made to make things work faster, sometimes it just slows your PC down to shit and can have more than 20GB+ in it. Cleaning it will force you to download some lua files from the servers you play on again, however.

Have you tried 64bit?

Also, you could try load the map on singleplayer, then connect.

aye i have it takes just as long if not longer

it’s not even how long it takes, its that almost every time i join i get “CONNECTION LOST” in the top right corner or i time out

but i’ll give that a try tomorrow
