BACKSTORY

“You’ve heard the stories, haven’t you? Of the legendary soldier Big Boss and his band of mercenaries, Militaires Sans Frontieres? Well, I’d think that anyone who’s ever picked up a gun or walked on bloody battlefield dirt would know of them. But you’ve heard of Cipher as well, and that one night where MSF and all within it were sent to hell, never to be seen or heard from ever again…”

And so the tale was told and passed down from soldier to soldier- all with heavy hearts beating in their chest. But the story wasn’t all that true, for after nine years since that incident a phantom rose from the ashes of MSF to reclaim and reforge the legend… the legend of Big Boss. Afghanistan and Africa? They were the playgrounds upon which the new Private Force Diamond Dogs used to grow strong, and with the likes of Kazuhira Miller, Revolver Ocelot and Big Boss running the show, their power and influence on foreign battlefields was not something to brush aside, not like those blokes in Rogue Coyote, Zero Risk Security and the CFA! In a matter of months Diamond Dogs would see itself through some of the most trying times imaginable, such as the vocal chord parasite outbreak, but also come out as a clear victor over the forces of XOF lead by Skullface with plenty of resources, GMP and fresh soldiers to show for it.

With a scientist banished from Mother Base for his selfish, careless acts and ‘Sahelanthropus’ retrieved from the prepubescent hands of a right tosser of a brat named ‘Eli’, many Diamond Dogs were expecting to enjoy a peaceful reprieve from all the fighting and bloodshed. However, as Kazuhira boldly stated before, “the world calls for wet-work”, and Diamond Dogs are to answer to that. There are no greater goods and no just causes. Contractors and employers all over the world are looking to Diamond Dogs to handle some very dangerous missions while Kazuhira Miller and Venom Snake continue to be on the hunt for Cipher. Revolver Ocelot in particular has been instrumental in directing attention to Diamond Dogs, so long story short, there is no shortage of work, rescue operations and combat deployments.

For the moment, everything seems to be business as usual… Though there have been many strange rumors lately… Choking, terrible abominations born from science and biology, organizations looking to ignite the Cold War again, and oddly enough, a silent assassin armed with a rifle lurking somewhere out there in Europe or Asia…

Whatever the case, those are all jobs for the men and women of Diamond Dogs. Now go and let the legend flourish… And remember, Big Boss is watching you!

GENERAL RULES

1. "Everyone can do something, but nobody can do everything," ~MSF Soldier. - Don't be afraid to do something crazy or tough with your character. As long as your character has the knowledge and skill, they can do just about anything. However, there are bound to be other characters who are more skilled in certain fields than your character is. You can't do everything by yourself! Allow other characters to have their turns at events and skills!

2. "Be careful down there Boss!" ~’Pequod’. - Metal Gear Solid prides itself in being a Tactical Espionage Action game. You may use lethal force and other loud tactics as much as you wish, but keep in mind that those can carry far-reaching consequences. Performing high profile actions such as shooting without silencers, running and generating noise, and general one-man-army tactics will arouse suspicion and alert enemy forces, thus making the mission tougher for your character and more importantly, the team or squad. By keeping a low profile and neutralizing hostiles via non-lethal methods and under the cover of darkness, you will be more likely to avoid any hiccups in your mission. It is your choice in the end!

3. "We don't draw weapons on comrades. Look around you. This is your family," ~Venom Snake - You're a confident soldier who has the skills to complete the mission alone if need be, but do not neglect the team and your fellow soldiers. Rivalries are fine, grudges are fine too, but outright hostility towards other soldiers is frowned upon. This is even worse when on a mission. A soldier wants to look up to the man or woman next to him, and Diamond Dogs needs this more than ever. By working together as a team, missions will go smoothly, enemies will be caught off guard, and objectives can be completed in no time at all.

4. "So uh... She's pretty foxy, right?" ~Kazuhira Miller - A little romance is fine, but don't get carried away. What are you loyal to? All that matters is the mission, not your personal feelings. Yet, when there are downtimes or periods where the soldiers must rest and recuperate… and some walls can come down. Just... If you're a female soldier, keep clear of Kazuhira Miller. The man's sauna incident hasn't stopped him from looking at the female soldiers. Luckily he's a bit hopeless… Not to mention crippled and brooding now.

5. "I feel... Safe." ~Big Boss - Use your head and common sense! Unless you have the proper equipment, don't bother tackling heavy machinery or large groups of enemies by yourself! Fall back and regroup so you can come up with a good plan. If your tactics and strategies are good and sound, you'll succeed. But most importantly, coordinate with your teammates. Two heads are better than one!

6. "You should come inside the box. Then you'll know what I mean." ~Big Boss - And most importantly, have fun! The MGS series is known for being filled with story and tense, action moments. There can and will be some dark elements thrown in along with violence and the like, but there is also plenty of humor. I plan on making the RP a serious one as well as humorous. Stock up on those Fulton Recovery balloons and porno mags, and whatever you do... Don't forget your cardboard box!

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Name: ((Your username so people can recognize who is playing as who/what.))

IC Name/Name of Character: (( What is the name and/or codename of your character? There is no restriction on names, however most Diamond Dog soldiers choose to be or are addressed by their codenames. Codenames can be anything, though most Diamond Dog soldiers have chosen the mantles of animals. It is up to you whether or not you want your character to have a codename. ))

Gender: (( Male or Female. Diamond Dogs does not discriminate against female soldiers. After all, Big Boss's mentor was a legendary female soldier. ))

Age: (( Anything within reason. "Fight for me little soldier... Show me just how strong you really are..." ))

---

- Parameters -

-- Note: Parameters runs via a ranking system: S++ - S+ - S - A++ - A+ - A - B - C - D - E - X. The rank you choose determines your character's effectiveness in the respective field. 'X' represents no experience whatsoever. There are no restrictions to your parameters, though as quoted above, "Everyone can do something, but nobody can do everything.”

Combat: (( This field determines whether or not a soldier is a true soldier. It determines their aim, speed, reload speed, accuracy, defense and skill with CQC. Soldiers with high ranks in combat either have an extensive history on the battlefield or are extraordinarily gifted in a particular skill, such as sniping, handguns, or close quarters combat. Said soldiers are more likely to win firefights and work well with other soldiers in groups. Also, because soldiers tend to get attached to their weapons and equipment, they are exceptionally gifted at using enemy and unknown weaponry despite not knowing the inner workings and fine details like one skilled with R&D. They just know how to use them! ))

Research & Development: (( Soldiers with a good handle for research and development are more likely to spot and identify weaponry and equipment; even discern what’s important and what’s not. They'll have a better time figuring out how things like UMAs, mechs, vehicles and other bits of technology work in case they have to either destroy them, capture them, or reverse-engineer them. In addition, soldiers with high ranks in this field are more likely to possess better weaponry and equipment, usually in the form of weapon mods and energy efficient/silent equipment. This is overridden by a soldier with a high combat skill, for they know best how to maintain the tools of combat. ))

Medical: (( Soldiers skilled in this field make good combat medics. Those with low ranks know basic first aid and how to keep themselves up and running, but higher-ranking soldiers are able to do much more. A skilled doctor in fatigues can easily stitch up gunshot wounds and take care of other injuries while keeping the body safe from infection and disease in no time at all. Other than maintaining the health of their fellow soldiers, there are two perks to being skilled in the medical field. A medical soldier can more easily identify healing plants and herbs for use. Second, tranquilizer rounds are more effective when fired from the Mk22 of a medically trained soldier. Why? Science! ))

Intel: (( Every soldier knows that intelligence and recon can help make a mission much, much easier. This field governs the effectiveness of map reading, document retrieval, interrogation and general espionage along with understanding multiple languages. Soldiers with high ranks in this field tend to be better spies, covert snipers and infiltrators. ))

Support: (( The usage of Fulton Recovery Devices is key to helping Mother Base grow, and those who are particularly skilled with support can carry many of those devices while allowing them to deploy faster and safer. The support skill works hand in hand with the intel skill well enough when it comes to language, but the true skill of support comes from those support items. Empty magazines, grenades of all kinds, plushie snares, porno magazines and even more advanced cardboard boxes can be instrumental in completing a mission if wielded by a soldier with a high support skill. Also, as an added bonus, these soldiers make great Support Buddies and receive a boost to all stats so long as they remain in a supportive role. ))

Base Development: (( While in the field this doesn’t seem to be important at all, a second look would reveal that soldiers with high parameters in this skill are much better at detecting mines, traps, security devices and decoys than their peers. Navigating urban environments will be a piece of cake for them! ))

---

Skills: (( What can they do or what abilities do they possess? Typically these skills are related to their parameters, such as being a 'Gunsmith' for the R&D department, but they can be much, much more. Language can go into here as well! ))

Weapons and Gear: (( Do they carry any gadgets, blades, guns, or anything that they use in combat? Remember, this is 1984, though… That might not mean much at all! ))

Weaknesses: (( What makes them fragile or causes them to be at a disadvantage?))

Appearance: (( What do they look like? Be very descriptive. It is recommended that the player posts a picture as well. ))

Personality: (( How are they like? Do they behave in a certain way or like doing particular activities?))

Morality: (( Lawful Good? Chaotic Evil? True Neutral? What kind of person are they? What are their ideologies?))

Biography: (( What is their history like? How did they come to be of what they are today? Anything that involves their past or what they once did for a living before joining up with the Diamond Dogs. Hell… Maybe they were in MSF before and managed to survive that fateful day?))

More Details: (( If you’d like to list them here, go right ahead! ))

GM'S NOTE: Just posting this here to get interest and applications started. I may put up a little guide on Forum RP sometime tomorrow as well, though I have the feeling that you guys know so much more than you all let on! As such, I'll update this post with a reply format that I hope to see you all use in my RPs. If there are any questions, you know how to get me.

Everyone rating this optimistic.

All ForumRP's die.

I know this as fact, I've done several.

But they're enjoyable for however long they last.

Cpt. Anton "High Noon" Churkin says "Again."
***Lt. Shin Yoon looks at the Captain for a second, before quickdrawing his pistol again, shooting from the hip only for his weapon to jam, puzzled, he looks at his weapon dumbstruck
***Cpt. Anton "High Noon" Churkin steps foward, offering his hand out for the sidearm
***Lt. Shin Yoon, embarrassed, hands over the firearm
***Cpt. Anton "High Noon" Churkin takes the sidearm, ejecting the magazine and handing it back to the Lieutenant before pulling back on the slide, clearing the jam, asking the Lieutenant, "You see that in the movies?"
Cpt. Anton "High Noon" Churkin says "That's an automatic, don't bother trying to dampen the recoil, you do that with a revolver."

Name: Major Mario
IC Name/Name of Character: Pugina Victorovna / “Frantic Bat”
Gender: Female
Age: 29 - Born in 1955.

---

- Parameters -

Combat: C
Research & Development: B
Medical: S
Intel: A+
Support: S+
Base Development: E

---

Skills:

Zoologist - Whether through equipment or experience Frantic Bat is able to either draw wild animals into the AO or repel them. Taming them is out of the question.

Anesthesiologist - Through her work assisting NGOs with acquiring threatened wildlife, Frantic Bat has a much better time with tranquilizer weaponry. Enemies hit with said tranquilizer weapons are less likely to resist their effects.

Weapons and Gear:

  • Armed with a Blaser R93 LRS2 Precision Sniper Rifle (configured with tranq rounds) and a Diamond Dogs standard issue blade.
  • Carries around a standard-issue Soviet radio/backpack that has been modified for Diamond Dogs operations.
  • Bait Bottle
  • Smoke Grenades
  • Extra munitions for herself and squadmates
  • Cardboard box
  • Inflatable decoy

Weaknesses:

  • Terrible at CQC and lacks a good sidearm for close combat.
  • Mistrustful of men.

Appearance: A tall, fair-haired woman of Russian origin. Wears a standard-issued Diamond Dogs BDU customized with a Tiger-Stripe pattern.

Personality: At first Frantic Bat can be described as terribly persistent and even annoying for her age. Goaded on by a strong desire to protect animals from the evils of mankind, she has very little love for anyone who either dislikes animals or has abused them in the past. At times this can lead to her forming ill-conceived grudges, while other times it can lead to her putting her trust in the right people. Though not quiet by any means, Frantic Bat can understand the meaning of radio silence and will concentrate on the mission at hand.

She seems much friendlier around women and senior officers.

Morality: Lawful Neutral

Biography: There’s honestly not much to say about her past, nor is there much that Frantic Bat likes to disclose. All that matters is that she was a conscript in the Soviet Army, a choice she made to avoid prosecution for meddling in government affairs. Carted off to Afghanistan, the woman was placed behind a desk as a quartermaster and radio operator out of sight from both the enemy Mujahideen and other Soviet troops. This wasn’t her first duty. Armed with a tranquilizer rifle she sought to fulfill the desires of a few NGOs by rescuing animals, yet after enough infractions by leaving her post she was demoted to the radio operator. Simply put, her XO hated her.

Thankfully, the one time Frantic Bat decided to go AWOL on the search for Afghan Brown Bears she was scooped up by one of the roving Diamond Dogs in the area. She didn’t much care for the method- she received a few bruises from stray empty magazines tossed at her back and head.
