SCRAP GUN REWORK

What started as a fun idea (what if you could load 12 gauge into the pipe pistol to make a shinzo abe assassin gun for a meme?) quickly spiralled out of control until it became the idea it is now, in simple terms:
  • You can convert the Pipe Pistol on the fly to shoot different ammo types using a drop-down menu whenever you right-click it in your inventory. You can choose from 9x19mm (standard), 9x18mm, .45 ACP, .357 or 12 Gauge. There are five different variants of the weapon, hidden from the spawn menu but still accessible via the helix scripts/items.

  • Each ammo type has its own damage, stats and general behaviour that corresponds with the round fired in question. 9x18 will have much less damage and recoil than .357, for example.

  • However, this theme also carries along to the whole selection of “zip guns” or pipe weapons, including the Scrap SMG, and the all-new Reclaimed Rifle. You will be able to change the calibre the SMG and Rifle fire at any workbench with minimal or no tools, depending on what we go with.

Once again, each ammo type will have it’s own behaviour, handling, stats etc. This allows players to adapt to current ammo stockpiles or shortages, alongside choosing the right tool for the job (or the less terrible one)

To ensure these weapons aren’t ignored over the much better non-scrap-weapons, I have the idea of being able to make the Pipe Pistol and Scrap SMG without crafting flags, with the Reclaimed Rifle and Scrap SMG calibre swapping being part of a crafter flag as not to make the flag entirely useless. These could go in their own crafting section as not to shit up the list of recipes.

Ron is working on making the Pipe Pistol able to be right-clicked in the inventory and converted on the fly to any of the ammo types shown above. As mentioned: I feel the Scrap SMG’s and Reclaimed Rifle’s conversions should be kept to the workbench as they have bigger gameplay implications compared to the Shinzo Abe meme gun.

CUSTOM MODEL HANDS

Another abandoned project from a few months past was the porting of various c_hand models for certain suits or models to give better parity with first and third person. The cop hands I had in mind have already been implemented at some point but there are still a few that remain, namely:

However, there’s still one problem that was the main roadblock in implementing this - when you equip a suit your hands don’t automatically update and require you to flag on and off, same with unequipping. Manually setting models with commands updates them instantly but running the equip function on a suit doesn’t. That’s the only thing stopping the implementation at the moment.

Personally I'm not a big fan of all the different ammo types and I think it's also something others don't enjoy. We briefly discussed changing it, simplifying it down to different types of ammo depending on the gun:
- pistol ammo
- rifle ammo
- etc
as long as they are all craftable there isnt an issue

all ammo should be craftable and uncraftable except pulse

all of a sudden you're balancing shit needlessly when you could have just made one ammunition piece rarer than others to counteract the weapon it's used for being considered the new meta, etc

Just read the numbers. It's not that hard chat. Just let the ammo-types be done properly one time. God. Fuck. Balls. Shit. If you struggle so much with reading the calibres stick to Fortnite Buddy.

nah i get where you're coming from lmao but they were made very deliberately to cover a lot of bases even if it isn't 100% shitfuck gun autism accurate like i wanted [like the m1 carbine using .45 ACP instead of .30 carbine, the garand using 7.62x51mm instead of 30-06 etc] to ensure that ammo parity and sharing between weapons made sense and that there wasn't just a single ammo type for a single niche weapon (apart from where this makes sense and has some merit gameplay wise, such as the AS VAL's 9x39 or the MP7's 4.6x30mm), meaning that if you got a box of .45 ACP, for example, there would be a significant variety and options for you to fire them out of whether that's a SMG made out of playdough or the clockwork assassin suppressed special pistol feared by every human to ever play this fucking gamemode.

dumming them down removes a lot of substance for very little in the way of convenience. each weapon clearly displays what round it fires in both the description and with the handy little ww3rp plugin that reads it's calibre name when you hover over it. I understand it's a little overwhelming sometimes but most people get the hang pretty quick and it also makes weapon autists rock hard which is a huge W that we can't afford to give up.

yeah, if the pistol was restricted to a workbench it'd be even more useless than it already is - at least this has some sort of merit as a cool scavenger shinzo abe special rather than 'the sawn off but even shittier'

on an unrelated note

I haven't heard much from the guys involved with implementing everything as I'm sure there are niche problems with how neb implements stuff so while all the content is feature-complete for the most part I still don't know when any of this will be in and I didn't wanna harass the people involved all the time just to add a few guns so I could ego stroke myself in a thread somewhere - I just hope the work doesn't go to waste and you guys get to get your hands on all the cool stuff sometime soon is all.
