Operations are your primary way of expanding your organisation and progressing in the game, these operations are extremely varied and can be any kind of criminal activity, but the ones immediately available to you will be limited depending on your chosen organisation type and will have to be unlocked. Operations are started small in a city near to your base location and will have to be slowly expanded to a substantial level and beyond. They will also come with their own set of problems, be it territory disputes, police attention, crew reliability or all out war, which will have to be properly managed.
For example if you were playing as a Colombian cartel from during the rise of cocaine you could first start by creating a small smuggling route into the US, before eventually setting up your own production facilities and distribution networks. All this will require valuable resources including money, manpower, research points and perhaps most valuable of all, people. Each person has their own unique identity, background set of skills, reliability etc. They each make up one task or role to fill in your organisation and so the bigger your operations the more people are needed. Recruitment into your organisation will be a fairly slow process depending on how thorough you will be in selection. From there you will still need to manage each persons moral, expenses and level of control you have of them. Otherwise your organisation may be nothing more than a loose network of unreliable contacts just waiting to crumble.
Territory in the game is defined by the level of control you have in cites, this control is gained by multiple factors. Size of your operations, manpower, fear, political power, economic control and so on. You will have to compete, rival and cooperate with other organisations in order to gain more and more control over the city.
Leadership will work similarly to CK3's heir system. You play as the boss of the organisation and will have to select who you intent to be next in line for boss depending on how your organisation is structured. This does not mean that your selected heir will be guaranteed leadership, it's very likely that power struggles may ensue if there is not enough stability and control within the organisation. This may result in you losing parts of even the entirety of your organisation if not careful, forcing you to start back from scratch.
Connections are criminal contacts you have throughout the world that are not in your organisation. This could be a supplier or a seller, a friend or a rival, an inside informant or a for hire hitman. You will have to use these connections in order to aid and expand your organisation without having to provide the infrastructure for it yourself, but at the cost of control.
