I have some weird Intel AMD build from when ryzen wasn't a thing. I was thinking of upgrading soon but I am not too sure what to upgrade first

CPU: i7 4790K
GPU: AMD 290X
RAM: 8gb
PSU: Corsair HX750i
Cooler: Some huge nouctua air cooler that I don't know the name of.
SSD: 128gb
HDD: 2tb

Well, whats your budget if you want to upgrade? Because as far as I can see, the ram should be fine as long as you arent doing too much multitasking, and the cpu/gpu could certainly use upgrades.

Used to have 8, but got 16 gigs and forgot that I had 4 ram slots on my motherboard
Best to take the two 4's out and just have the two 8's in there on dual channel - unless your MOBO supports quad channel

Will get more mileage for the 16 you have, which is usually better, unless you actually use 24gb of RAM usually

Around 500 cad. Was thinking ram would be one of the first things I would upgrade

i wish we canadians had cheaper parts..

Have you thought about going ryzen? The new 3000 series is coming out soon, so you may want to see their options for that.

Card wise, maybe an rx 570 if you can strech the budget

would have to replace my whole motherboard for a ryzen and that would push the cost up a lot. But the 570 is pretty much the same as a 290x, just more quiet and cooler. Do you think I should go for a CPU first or GPU?

in that case get a cpu upgrade, but ill be honest when i say you are prob gonna need a new mobo regardless of wheter its intel or ryzen

What about your cable management? I tossed mine just in the back with a few ziptied and some loose but could barely closed my case, it's still yet not probably closed but who cares? Cable management sucks.

depends on your budget but ryzen is the alpha male unless you can throw an i7 6700k into that socket (not the best choice)
i'd definitely switch to a different motherboard the one i have is small and meh
