Even more insulting when all the trailers prior showed the scene with Gordon's head clearly visible as he pummels Sergant Mitchell in the flesh (or rather, his remains). A very poor bait and switch, if you ask me.

Only things I could give credit to were very sparse
  • Seeing the night sky almost blotted out by countless of Synth aircraft really nailed down the sheer extent of Combine's power by bruteforcing the planet into submission.
  • Partial cleverness with G-man: He offered Mitchell authority, to have time to amass power by killing off any other authoritative figures that could stand in Mitchell's (or rather, his remains') way:
    1. Colonel 'Loading' Queue
    2. Harvey Fresh Ltd.
    3. Captain Rose-felt Jesus in his heart
Although it can be argued these could've done more if left alive on the grand scheme of things, but that's beside the point.
