COURTROOM ETIQUETTE

All persons seeking to plead their case before the Court of Los Santos County are obliged to follow and abide by proper etiquette while attending Court. Person(s) found in violation of this code of conduct shall be held in contempt of the Court and may receive legal penalties or face dismissal of their case.

1. All persons are required to wear proper attire while attending court at least to the standards of business casual dress codes. Sleeved shirts long or short, slacks or pants, and close toed shoes are required.

2. All persons must act respectfully while present at City Hall and when speaking to, or interacting with, any staff or representative of the Court.

3. All persons are expected to arrive on time for their scheduled hearing. Tardy or absentee plaintiff/defendant(s), except in the case of extreme emergencies, may warrant the dismissal of a case.

4. Prepare adequately for Court. Ensure any relevant documents are in order and that you are prepared to deliver your statements and pleads to the Court.

5. Food and drink are not permitted in the court room. Gum or other tobacco products are also prohibited.

6. Cell phone use is prohibited. Your cell phone should be off or silenced at all times during Court. The use of handheld radios or any other form of communications device is also prohibited.


7. You may not receive legal advice from an individual other than your attorney. Do not request legal advice from any Court staffers, including the Judge. Only your attorney may provide you with legal advice.

8. All persons present should remain standing until Judge and Jury have entered the Courtroom and be seated only when the Judge and Jury have assumed their place in the Courtroom.

9. All persons shall stand when addressing the Judge, and should address them as 'Your Honor'.

10. Witnesses should be present if their statements are to be considered. If they are unable to be present, absentee statements are only admissible if delivered under oath and when presented with a signature on behalf of the witness.

11. Refrain from interrupting or speaking over others. All persons are entitled to make their case during Court proceedings.

12. All statements given during court must be truthful. False or fabricated statements made under Oath shall constitute a penalty of perjury and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law.

13. Contact with the Judge outside of the Courtroom is prohibited during an ongoing case. Do not e-mail, text, call, or write a letter to the Judge while you are involved in an active case. Evidence presented outside the presence of both parties cannot be considered.

14. Weapons of any kind are prohibited on the premises and should be left in a secure location, such as your residence. All persons may be subject to a security screening upon entry into the Courtroom.
