Suggestion: Open and close the server at certain days of the week, a schedule being followed of when people can get-on and roleplay.
Why it would be worth adding: Now we've transitioned once-more to a City RP- I think it's fairly vital that we agree on a period of time and days where people can get on and roleplay with one-another. This ensures that there can be a set schedule for event-staff to work around and plan for what happens at what point during the day- an avoidance of the age-old nothing happening in the city as many have fallen to in the past! If we're to keep engagement, we need to ensure burnout doesn't occur!
Necessary content: Times & Days that the server opens, up to staff & the community at-large.

this has worked well for a niche rp game i play every now and then

it's only open weekends, and hasn't dealt as much with dead periods as a result

this will not work for nebulous i'm afraid

as good as it sounds on paper, it doesn't change anything by forcing players to play only during certain hours, at best it puts pressure on staff teams to make each opening special

prime times occur naturally regardless, as do downtimes. it's also very limiting imo

a roleplay server only opening and closing at certain times is a byproduct of a server being heavily event focused, with a staff team that zone in completely and utterly and focus on running a full-tilt episode in the timespan they have

the server closing is not what is causing it to become good.
the server is closing to let staff leave and recuperate from what is basically running a 4-8 hour D&D session on gmod.

believing that adding an arbitrary restriction to when the server is open will somehow make things magically better is looking at a side-effect of a server management style and thinking that's the cause

there's plenty of players in weird timezones, adding a server open/close time will at best force them to play at 3am, and at worst lock them out of playing entirely
they should at least have the freedom to play during graveyard hours with the other people of their timezone

Staff need rest, and it is fun to play without them messing with you. Limiting hours would probably force me to miss a lot, and kill off the niche we had last iteration where there was our own little group that did things at a different time to the others.
We can make our own fun if at least one person has PET flags. We can create our own events limited yes, but we can have fun with a couple people when no admins are on.

Keeping the server closed for one or two days ain't a bad idea. Beats keeping it closed for an entire week. It is also a good opportunity for staff to rendezvous and properly discuss stuff.

However, I don't like the idea of keeping the server open between certain hours. It polarises parts of the community that cannot play during active periods of the server.
