In seriousness though, I wonder how long VR is going to really last, I hope it does well but a lot of what I've seen is not helping.
  • Lackluster software
  • Far from perfect hardware
Mixed with a pricetag for 600+ for the good headsets followed by $30 tech demos that cannot provide any long term enterainment.
You'd hope Valve would have a killer app for their Vive, but they made a tech demo that seemed less interesting than half of the indie shit out there.
we have enough angry bird and longbow clones already.

the problem is that game devs aren't looking at the right applications for this sort of thing

Imagine official compatibility with ArmA 2/3. Imagine a Tom Clancy-style shooter where you can lean around a corner by actually leaning around a corner. Imagine Wii tennis but with a VR headset on.

That will be a great later goal, although the hardware strain from VR at the moment cripples it, ARMA already runs like shit, imagine VR on it. 10fps = vomit trip.

well yeah, but my point is that people seem intent on making these cool little tech demos that work great as proof-of-concepts but no actual gameplay

hell, the game doesn't need to look pretty to work, but i haven't seen a single serious attempt at a vr-enabled tactical shooter

Some progress got made, a viable VR fps with real movement.

Its a bit of a chop job, but hey, limited resources and time.

We can all thank the porn industry for pushing this forward, just like many other technologies.

The porn industry is actually one of the biggest benefactors when it comes to funding these types of things because they can use it to make better porn.
