don't think i've posted on this forum since i was a literal teenager (lol), but "aneurism iv" popped onto my steam homepage and i got an intense wave of nostalgia for all the time i spent on hl2rp back in the day; happy to see the forum is even still around. went looking through my old screenshots, here are a few of my favorites

my biggest, nerdiest confession is that i felt extremely cool at the time for being on the podium for such a big event with what i think was one of my day one characters, and while i don't feel cool about it anymore, i am happy i got to experience the event at all

don't remember exactly how this came about, but if my memory serves me correctly, i think the rebels had done something to piss someone off, leading to not only a massive raid, but also a complete wipe out of almost everyone with a civil protection whitelist that was online at the time. i believe spas-12's were removed almost immediately after this, which is pretty fucking hilarious

13/12 was the result of cramdam playing the tasteful character 'corpsefucker' doing a shotcop with his buddy, the resulting sweep was wiped further down the tunnel, and the rebels all had to post up in the canteen for the ensuing waves. there was no back exit, a new wave of cops every 10 minutes. there was absolutely no way to get out, and a rule against disconnecting during a sweep, so every single rebel was a hostage to this sweep in the laggiest propbuild of all time, with walls that would turn buckshot into slugs. kind of very silly looking back.

it was followed up on either the day after or on new years(?) with another, similar set of sweeps, the second time the OTA eventually deployed and wiped everyone, resulting in mass NLRs (or half the entire playerbase would have been PKed), but everyone had picked up so many cop guns at that point it didnt really result in any significant loss

people spawned props to exploit the spas-12's wallbang 'function' (all pellets becoming 1 with all the damage)
cops cried and spammed grenades
many of us made fortunes with the immense amount of leftover mp7s, I know @john was going around buying them up for 2k a piece and later resold them when the 'gunflation' died off.

at the time I ended up shoring up the defense for most of day 1, made out with about 8 mp7s, got shot in the back of the head by some spastic who stole my shotgun when the fight was dying off, and sold two on to @john - that's about all I remember.

That reads just like people in highschool going like "Guys if we all leave class, what they gonna do? give us all detention"

Honestly i'm regretting not shooting my Rank Leader who forced us as if we are Red Army Conscripts in the Movie Gates of the Enemy. While we got killed they survived.

i didn't know what i was doing, a fair bit was probably a little cringe in hindsight (granted it's only been 3-4 years or something i think since i last touched it)
i have a lot more screenshots that i should really backup to some sort of cloud storage
obligatory portal 2 ost because i would always use portal 2 ost when posting psi-tech BULLSHIT!!!!

i think it's fine to be cringe, and too many people are hostile towards it

i am confident that almost every favorite RP moment from anyone was, in retrospect, cringe as fuck when looking back on it
you think the war between the thinly veiled Yakuza 0 inspired asian stereotypes was highbrow storytelling and an avant garde thematic storytelling decision?
probably not
was it cool as fuck?
yeah

funny enough i always thought the 'cringey' characters were a little cool in the sense of like "hey atleast somebody is using their imagination" (the character themselves being Damian Killerborn, 6'7, Big ass muscles, Red necklace which holds all his power, and then continuing to actually try to play the character genuinely seriously), or stuff like those events, which if i think i know what you're talking about there was some fucking samurai vs. farmers storyline in city 8 that was like ??? but we had some all out melee samurai brawl so i thought it was hilarious
I had a screenshot but i for the life of me cannot find it because I don't organize my screenshots, so instead have this screenshot of us milk-boarding a civil protection officer

I remember this, I was there. Gaben and Maelradecs were with me too and we all posed wearing the S10 ELA model.

But for the life of me I can't remember the context (an event?) or if we killed that officer afterwards.

Wasn't an event, it was TommyGMan's cop that ran away from the base and turned to rebels, to warn them of an attack or something like that.

The screenshot is when we first encountered them, we were talking when suddenly a horde of rebels, returning from a gunfight, surrounded the cops - blew off one cop's head off and took the other into a prison cell to torture & interrogate them.

I actually happened upon them while exploring alone in the mountains, we had some brief altercation which resulted in me re-enacting the signature move set of my favorite Overwatch character, Doomfist.
I knocked them out and called rebels over to drag them back with me, I have no clue why but a deep spiritual calling (some sort of drug induced stupor) told me to do it.

Key then deployed a giant dropship and essentially told us to "<:: put the cop in the bag ::>" or we would Explode Violently. Or something like that it's been a few years.

I choose life as they say

I almost killed the entire retaliatory sweep with a pulse ball also. It caught the mesh of the tunnel opening and got flung backwards and ended up narrowly missing everyone's head by like half an inch. Never were my cheeks more clenched. I refrained from using pulse balls from that day onward.

I am fairly sure there's a video on YouTube that shows just this, but the pulseball actually hits and kills the entire team of 4 OTA lol
If you didn't know, pulse balls' bounce behaviour acts differently on props, so it could lead to some funny shenanigans

u were also surrounded by John Rebel who's defining character trait was that they were gruff, had a gun, and were a rebel, it's hard not to be called cringe when u dont conform to the norm. the more the roleplay years pass the more i think playing a freak weirdo is awesome

Yeah the collisions are totally unpredictable. Using a pulse ball in a prop build environment is like playing russian roulette.
