Hello friends and non-friends
My graphics card, might be dying
Let me explain

I used to be able to play rust, at quite low and bad settings at 40 FPS and not get any heating problems or anything

Now, I can play rust for like 15-20 minutes, then my computer shuts off to avoid overheating. Same goes for many other games, such as Reign Of Kings, H1Z1, Dirty Bomb, Paladins.

My graphics card, is really weird and outdated. I got this computer pre-built in 2012, and the graphics card name on the computer only says "AMD Radeon R9 200 Series" that's literally it. Nothing else specified, Supposed to be about 3GB of GPU memory, idk im bad with computers.

Basicly, I think the GPU is dying. It's intergrated aswell, according to one of my buds who helped me a bit. I might be getting a new graphics card, since this one is doing so bad
Here's the card I have in mind, please tell me if you can think of a better one

Side note: I've had this issue for like 2 months now, and guess what, sometimes the issue of overheating dissapears for an entire month, and then comes back??? :(
We brought it to a repair shop and they said it was fine ???

Alright. From what I gather, I should be getting a new card.

Not necessarily.

Firstly I'd download a program that can monitor the temp of your ffs cards to make sure it is overheating. Graphics cards can generally get REALLY hot before causing DMV to themselves, the hottest mine have been is 90, which for reference, 72 degrees kills all food borne bacteria. Hot.

Monitor your system in task manager, open system resources and see if you are getting system interrupts; if you are, it might not necessarily be your gfx card.

Clean and reroot your PC. Remove pci and ram and clean slots, reinsert all cables dotted around the insides, and clean fans.

See how you are then, if your ffs card was dying you would have consistent issues, not inconsistent

also might wanna invest in better fans for your GPU or PC in general, could be a cheaper investment compared to a new GPU if it worked fine/runs games fine if the overheating is the problem

It would probably be wise to look at what your talking about before assuming.

AMD are fantastic for bang for buck, however many major outlets would reccomend nvidia. Nvidia have a much longer avg lifetime due to the materials they use to make the cards. AMD are great if you want a good value card for the meanwhile, I have 2 670s in ski and one of them burned out after five years the other month, the other is still solid, running most games still on high or ultra at full resolution.

Also AMD has a great api for newer games and is generally in the trend on providing a lot more user support for its base. This is probably due to the fact that many technological advances are made by nvidia and more often than not are sponsored and then integrated into games. Nvidia hair works and tesselation to name a few.

If your not looking for a mega high end card, if reccomend AMD. If your looking for a good card that will last you half a dozen years, nvidia.

I have that card on my other PC and I can run bf1 perfectly well.
You're either lying or something in your PC is bottlenecking your card.
