Note: This all comes from a relatively new fan of Halo and Doom series. I've only ever really played Halo Custom Edition on SPV3 and Doom 2016, but I've seen plenty of the games after and before them, respectively.
All this Halo stuff is looking to be interesting. While I don't have the seething hatred some old-timer Halo fans might have for H4 and H5, I do still prefer the aesthetic of the pre-343 games, aka Reach and Bungie trilogy. So, seeing as Halo Infinite returns to its roots, I'm pretty giddy about it as well. As for Master Chief Collection coming to PC, it'll be painful to wait that out. Mostly because it's tempting to watch more videos of Bungie trilogy and Reach gameplay and story, but I don't want to spoil myself 100% on them.
I'm pretty stoked for Doom Eternal. The HUD and pain grunts feel a bit off when compared to the stuff shown in Quakecon 2018,
buuut those are just minor gripes to me personally. Folks at id are
really passionate about catering to the fans of Doom, so chances are they'll either make both of those optional or revert them entirely - we'll see if they address these questions in Quakecon 2019.
I don't have many issues with more NPC interaction or third-person cutscenes. The devs at id AFAIK have stated well-enough that all the story stuff can be ignored for the people who are only interested in the killiness of the game - which none can be blamed for. But, for those who want lore, it adds another layer of enjoyment to the game alongside all the stuff they can explore hidden within each level. It'll be interesting how far they're gonna take this 'Heaven and Hell' thing for Doom Eternal. After all, it's starting to look like former is controlling the latter behind the scenes. And, y'know, Satan
was an angel that was cast down from Heaven.
Still, I'm kinda bumming that Collector's Edition is only for US and Canada. I would've loved all that good stuff including the lore book. But, I'm kinda on the fence whether id being a subsidiary company of Bethesda will affect the merchandise quality. We all know how Fallout 76's merch failed, so I have fingers crossed the incompetence at the higher tables doesn't affect things below them - if not for myself, but for the fellow Doom fans in Northern America.
...Yeah, it feels weird how I could only write one paragraph about Halo Infinite
and MCC, but for Doom Eternal alone I chugged three paragraphs :v
Edit: Looks like I bamboozled myself on the Collector's Edition being limited to US.
They do sell it to Europe as well, but... fuck, man, over 220 euros.
