What I can only assume is that the mainline establishment of the democratic party wants their candidates to walk back on the issue because the establishment is very centrist and neoliberal, whereas medicare for all is very much populist and anti-establishment.

Democrats in the Congress are still for medicare (mostly), but the most of them are not for making medicare a universal system (aka, single-payer healthcare).

I didn't say nationalism is arrogant. I said Trump's nationalism is arrogant.

The rhetoric his uses, the obvious disregard of facts, and the way in which he's increasing tensions and divides are all part of his obnoxious circus show.

Nationalism is meh, depending on how it's implemented. But Trump's brand of it is just straight up shit.

Polls have found that 56 percent of americans support medicare for all.

Over 70 percent support increasing taxes on the wealthy.

On the minimum wage, 71 percent of voters support raising the federal rate to $10.10, 18 percent want it higher.

These ideas are extremely popular, the democrats just don't want to move left because they want to keep the status quo. They're just as bought and paid for as the republicans are. Campaign financing and corruption aren't partisan issues - they happen across party lines at essentially the same rates.
