also if you look carefully you see squid-like creatures in the skies
this guy shouldn't be a mind flayer as the process takes a while I heard.
maybe they took some creative liberties but holy hell..

haven't played either first or second, should I ?

I don't think that for the third one you need to play the first two prior, since it looks like its a completetly different story.

Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn and its Throne of Bhaal expansion is the better game in the series, though you may appreciate the characters and story more if you play Baldur's Gate I first and then move on to BG II. I'd also say it gives you more agency on how you build your character, since in BG I you start off as Level 1 (duh) and can structure your character into BG II, which - if you don't import your character - you start off at around Level 7 or 8 as opposed to the max in BG I.

Its also worth revisiting BG I since it just had an expansion released last year or so? The Siege of Dragonspear which coincidentally raises the experience cap and adds more to the story.

correct me if im wrong but isnt Baldur's Gate in the "Neverwinter setting"
read something about it and considering that's one of my favourite classic RPG/DnD settings this would be incredible

I quite literally haven't even met this party member 25 hours in am I doing it wrong?
I think I've "Met" a few party members cause when they uhm... "laid down" their inventory had camping supplies and alchemy bags...

Karlach is pretty early in the game do so maybe you just missed her, not sure if she re-appears
