Best Gmod year?

Following on from the polls used to find the best gamemodes and maps, I thought it might be interesting to ask what the best year was in Gmod history. Obviously there's going to be a bias to more recent years, so I think it's also worth asking what year each voter first played Gmod.

I'll be asking around the internet and will publish the results in the archive when a good number of votes is reached. If you want to be involved, simply comment with the year you started and then the year you enjoyed Gmod the most so far (2004 - 2022). I'd also appreciate any comments describing why that year was the best so far.

I don’t remember when I started but probably in like 2014
I enjoyed 2020 the most because a lot of people were playing during the pandemic so lots of servers were active.
I met a lot of great people that year.

Probably 2013-2014 for me. I am biased, because 2013 is when I first got the game and nostalgia is definitely a factor. But I also feel like there was a greater variety of gamemodes at the time. Then again, a lot of these didn't last long either.
Still, I enjoyed the diversity.
Maybe 2015 could count as well because that's when I first got into RP when I joined LP.

Best year I'd say was 2014-2015, snowy korea era
Second best? 2011 easily, Noxious Net Zombie Survival golden age, for sure
when did I start playing gmod? 2009. here's a little clip of me when i was 9 year olds, my steam name at the time was black alabama killer snack, what i really wanted to be called was black mamba killer snake, but i butchered the spelling

2012-13, that one period where catalyst gaming was always at the top of the browser but there were at least 5-10 other thriving communities despite that. plus a few that dealt with some wacky plugins that seemed crazy at the time, alternate settings having a place like novus two, etc.

between 2014-2017 i hardly rped so missed out on whatever was going on then

I played gmod way back in 2010. Lots of TTT, HL2RP on Combine Control, etc.

Startet playing LemonPunch WW3RP in summer 2016. Almost didn’t have a social-life until 2017, when parties and social gatherings started. But it was worth it 100%.

Was there an era like that? When I joined in 2009 I remember servers getting choppy and people talking about DDoS attacks.

2009 - 2011-ish I think? It was pretty common for servers to outright bring others down because of tribalism and stuff. It was unfortunately pretty common.

As for what era I think was best; 2015 - 2016 out of pure nostalgia!

I guess Gmod was overshadowed by the already established sandbox (JBMod) for the few days it was publicly available in 2004 (released 24th December). It might have been fairer to call 2005 the first "year" in Gmod history.
