999 is the hard cap, 900 is light cap.
Some people stop at 950/960.

every week he comes around with a: random exotic armor piece for each class, random exotic weapon, and a exotic engram.

the weapon and armor pieces kinda suck this week though, so I'd just recommend buying an exotic engram if you can afford it.
