Lots of S2K, lots of RP and lots of fun. It was all balanced, for the first 3-4 maps at least. Then it got unbalanced in favour of more S2K, which, I personally liked but it came at the cost of turning away people that preferred RP and in turn, reduced the server's quality and playercount.

Waking up early in the morning to hop on neb and experience all sorts of things was a magical experience. It was like being thrown back to 2018.
credits to @deathwolf for accidentally dropping thermal goggles so I can become a star of the show on one beautiful day

I must admit though, I was modifying my game texture files and abusing console commands to gain advantage many, many times. One particular console command acted as a "radar" for me, so when a cop or transhuman came within my PC's render range (180 degree view from my PoV) it would tell me so, and I knew that they were near-by and that a chance for S2K to happen was increasing. Then I would "accidentally" stumble onto them and fight them lol.

video unrelated to the thing I described

many such cases of people who didnt s2k much and then logged in down the line and knew how to murder all of a sudden. @TedHatty was 100% cheating too.

Considering the PK rules back then, you had to have at least another character with you for it not to be a PK. TedHatty always had a friend with him, whose name I can't remember, and both of them would be always up to some s2k shenanigans.

Calling me or them cheaters is a far stretch though.

The Duval, French Street Fighter
Come next Helix, I will personally make an OSI character to take his organs.
Bob Terrorist
“Do not enlist Bob Terrorist”, then two hours later he steals a car, after his first character gets pk’d after my Conscript paid him off to assassinate a rebel.
The Big Josh Lernet Manhunt, “loyalist” characters bolting and running for the sewers the moment they think they’ve been found out. (A CAB member just wanted to talk to him lol)
Communists in Union Orgs. Matsuo getting assassinated before Dwight could deliver his report to him was the big sadge.
Blue Street ended up being an extended shotcop. One of the funniest moments was when Krystal took the baton she’d grabbed off a Volunteer Corps to make a racket the poor sods on the other side of the barricade couldn’t cut out, and other people joined in with their melees.
There was one canon Zombine in Helix 1 and it blew up at the bottom of the RB6 ladder.

The PK appeals section. That should be unlocked and given to scientists to study.

floating around on my admin character, half afk while eating a pot noodle, only to blurt out mid bite "BOB TERRORIST!?!?!" after seeing the man himself driving to the rebel zone in an apc, straight past a conscript checkpoint. literal core memory.

Back on City 8 just before Blue Street Riots, my character Bob Berries was tasked by the man himself, Wallace Petrol, with killing a UM nurse femchar. A hit, basically. Of course, I asked for the details as to why this was happening, and the answer was "She gave away the names of other people to Civil Protection - all over some issues with his boyfriend, who was also a rebel".

Classic UM femchar moment, never gets old.

So I was given her name and started off by learning about the player's timezone, which was American if I remember correctly, so this meant that I'd have to wake up early irl before they'd disconnect for their night. Unlucky.
I would loiter just outside the clinic to see if she'd ever exit the clinic and wander off somewhere, so I could catch her alone and do the killing part. She never did. This went on for about a week at this point, and I was getting pressured about the hit not happening for a long time, so I decided to speed things up.
I entered the clinic when the nurse femchar was online, with a USP-T equipped and hidden in my pocket. The nurse wasn't on the reception desk, some other guy was. I decided to sit in the lobby for some time - an hour goes by, and the nurse hasn't come out whatsoever.

"Well shit, guess I am going in deep."

I stood up and walked up to the reception desk, said that my right foot hurts for seemingly no reason - just trying to bullshit my reason inside the clinic, see if the femchar nurse is even inside, maybe she was somewhere else entirely. I knew the layout of the clinic, as I had scouted it by accessing the first rooms, the door to which was occassionally left unlocked on accident, but I never knew what was in the teleporting door which would lead to laboratories of some kind.
I was escorted to the Operating Room by a different nurse, and he started inspecting my character's foot for any kind of visible damage, all the while I was planning my way inside that laboratory, maybe the target was in there, and what I would do to get out alive after killing her - how I would put the male nurse under gunpoint for him to open the doors for me, etc etc. It was a bit intense.

I remember how the male nurse asked me for my character's name, and I can't remember if I gave him a fake name or my real name. Either way, he left the OR to "do something" and locked me inside. At first, I didn't suspect anything, and I thought of going into the labs, but pussied out and opted to wait for the femchar to pop up. What a patient hitman I was. Soon afterwards, I realized that the nurse treating me was taking up quite some time and that he hasn't returned in a while.

"Ohshitohfuck, do they know why I am here???"

I kinda start panicking a little, so I genuinely start thinking of gunning my way out of the clinic and bolting it for the metro. But then I am calmed down by the nurse returning without any cops, and just flat out tells me "You sir, are suffering from flatfeet. Okay thanks bye."

Went into the clinic to kill someone - came out with a knowledge that I have a flatfoot. And for the record, I did end up accidentally stumbling onto the femchar in clinic, and did the job of killing her. Got away alive by running into the metro, with cops chasing after me but not following down the sewers.

Gave @Simman102 's thread a read, and I have this to say.

Any of you that used an ESP/abused console commands/abused any powers you had/changed your own game files just to get an advantage in S2K were RP-allergic tryhard pussies and any respect for you is lost. There's no reasonable excuse or justification for it; you cheated, you actual loser. If you cared that much to win shootouts, you should've played CoD, Battlefield, or CS:GO, not ruin the fun for others on an RP server.

You not only ruin the experience for others, but you also ruin it for yourself. Throughout all past iterations, S2K usually scared me and that was a good thing. It kept me immersed, gave me a reason to fear the enemy (which for the most part was Civil Protection), and made me feel like I was playing a character. Cheating just screws you out of that, you lost that sense of immersion and ruined your own RP just to win shootouts.

If you were one of those cheaters, you contributed to the degradation of quality for RP and enjoyment on the server and you should feel ashamed.

I had fun, both RP-wise and S2K-wise. I'd do it all over again.

This reads like a copypasta though.

my proudest event actually, even better than shipment 5

the story is as follows

snowl volunteered to do the opening event for linnteration. then he backed out - whole nother story there that i cba to get into
i say "fuck it i'll do it" half-jokingly but people took me seriously and i thought "yeah alright i WILL do it"
i get sent the original doc snowl made
the first like, 5 sentences were straight fire but the rest was just...yeah. like, gordon freeman was gonna slip on a banana peel or some shit idfk i cant remember
anyway, i suddenly had the sinking realisation that i'd never ran a full-server event before, i'd only done a closed server event to a grand total of 3 people and some schizo dream shit
i tried to do a write-up but i'm notoriously shit at write-ups and quite frankly, i hate doing them, i find it far easier and better when you just had the plan in your mind then tell people what to do

so i told people the rough outline of what i was gonna do, then i sat and watched apocalypse now
spent a week setting up the event server on each map we were gonna use
the night of the event i necked a 6 pack of beers and hopped on discord and ran it like the navy

pmuch, for those that didnt play it, the event was set in the destroyed ruins of i17 in the middle of a successful uprising. you were trapped in the middle of the action. you weren't combatants, you were humble refugees.
i originally got flak because i was adamant there were to be very limited number of cops but i wanted it to be distinctly different to any other war event where the cops become the soldiers and went all robocop. like, no, the district is in fucking ruins, any cop still alive there is gonna be on the exact same level as whoever else is hiding there and not actively fighting. if they were, they'd be on the frontline.

anyway
i told the staff to teleport people to rooms that i'd pre-designated as "start zones" all over the map, basically putting people in a barricaded room that was acting as a shelter from the bombing or whatever. they'd be teleported at complete random, and this paired with the hidden scoreboard meant that people were forced to interact purely IC and not just immediately run off with their ooc friends and start their GRAND PLANS. no one knew who they were talking to OOC, and it forced relationships and stuff - it worked perfectly from what i know

i made it clear these people had been sheltering in place for a few days and it's only really now that the shelling and fires had died down enough to make a venture out onto the streets.
there were a couple of rooms with like 20 people, some with only 3 or 4.
a lotta people actually stayed inside the safe rooms, they were perfectly happy just doing passive rp
there was still danger on the streets, people had to be vigilant, but the fighting had, by and large, stopped

anyway yeah the whole first day was essentially bringing some order to chaos and people trying to survive and find food, find their friends, find their loves ones, and ultimately get the fuck out of city 17. i saw one guy desperately trying to find his wife so me being me, i stuck a ragdoll in some rubble and made an npc char to tell him where to find her

it's a shame the narrative got completely destroyed after the first day, really. it fell apart a bit on the second map, i chose the wrong map for it quite frankly but also, so many people got the complete wrong idea of what was going on and tried to start a war

then we ended up on terminal 6 for fucking ages because the """"CUSTOM MAP""""" and the HUGE GAME CHANGING REFORMS that were promised were so delayed (on account of whoever was doing it being lazy)
so the whole thing just ran out of steam before it even really started

then it turned out they just wanted to continue the bog-standard occupation roleplay without any real changes so it was all a bit pointless (and they ended up wanting to do a mapchange to i17 lol)

didnt even get any screenshots i was so locked in traumatising people

swag
ah man I miss doing shit like this now

there will never be another time like it

One funny instance I remember on rp_asheville, was @Gary 's rebel character running around like this;
OnpyXfG.jpeg

ljunP7q.jpeg

So I started talking with him, had a little chat - suddenly roleplays putting his thumb in his mouth, blowing hard and returning to normal proportions. Then he runs off without a word.

It was funny

Does anyone still have that video on D47, where a civil protection sweep goes from co-ordinated to everyone running for their lives over VC the moment 'Lost' appeared with the SPAS12?

Also if anyone has the video of the time I unknowingly wiped a CP squad because my armour made me invisible, I've been trying to find that video again for ages.
