LOCATION: THE RYAN HOUSEHOLD, CITY FIVE.

Smoke and the stench of alcohol swirls around in the humid atmosphere of Johnny and Louise Ryan's apartment. Our hero is completely strung out on cheap cigarettes and whiskey from the local corner store; he'd rather blow his brains out than listen to Louise's pissed-off harangue.

LOUISE: So, what, you're just gonna bring home random packages without telling me anything? What's in this one?

LOUISE: Johnny, are you even fucking listening to me?

LOUISE: I'm asking you a question! What the hell's in the briefcase?

JOHNNY: Why the hell do you give a shit?

LOUISE: Because you've been acting fucking weird! You're out from morning 'till noon doing god-knows-what, and you're always coming home with these god damn little packages! That's not to mention the chronic drinking. God, ever since you got fired from that stock job down at the pier you've been in a complete downward spiral.

JOHNNY: Jesus fucking Christ, do you ever shut the fuck up?

LOUISE: The day I quit nagging you is the day you quit being a fucking asshole about everything.
