It's just a problem I have with zombie media in general really, sure, by all means have some way to get the military defeated but they always do it in the most handwavy methods

TWD is absolutely the worst offender for this, I find it hilarious that because their zombies were so little of a threat they had to show the military getting overrun offscreen because it wouldn't be believeable at all if they showed it happening
TWD is by far the worst example.

The only time it made sense was during Fear's Season 1, in which case the camp was in the process of being evacuated, was generally undermanned and the dude had just unlocked the stadium filled with a few thousand dead people and lured them to the camp gates.

I suppose at least Brooks pointed out that it was meant to be a big stunt to boost morale and that they'd literally just underestimated how difficult fighting the entire population of NY would be (not counting the zombies who broke out of houses from behind the lines) and packed the sorts of weapons that would mow down zombies without being too effective on keeping them down when the firepower ran out.

It was a little silly but I'm glad it wasn't a straight case of "well they just...... won."

I listened to the whole of the unabridged audiobook - which has some big stars in it. The format of the book is perfect for it, it reads like a radio-drama. Listening to Mark Hamill act out the Battle of Yonkers made it even more great.

Honestly World War Z is such a great book, from its commentary on the military to international relations, to even the more intimate stories Brooks writes. But because of the whole stigma attached with the zombie genre and the shitty Brad Pitt movie its hard to recommend to people.

I honestly kinda liked the movie.

If it was called something other than World War Z I think I'd have liked it a lot more than I did though.

lmao remember in season one of TWD when the gang literally walk past giant stockpiles of military arms, ammunitions and vehicles and don't even look at them or think to pick it up

in regards to "military useless lol"

CROSSED is one of the best apocalypse comics in regards to breaking that cliche

the military do literally everything in their power to stop the infection without it going to "thats fucking stupid" and it fails because the infection is just that much stronger than them

the series "Thin Red Line" really shows the first days of the outbreak from the army's perspective and just how impossible it was to stop it

Honestly the only other thing I remember from Fear's early seasons is in Season 3 is when a zombie somehow pulls a dude into a wall so hard his spine snaps backwards and he's compressed like a fucking calzone.

Oh and when the two wild dogs go full sicko mode on some zombies.

I think Left 4 Dead did a pretty good job of explaining the military away, though you'd have to actually buy the comics to find out since the games aren't really lore based

where the virus is just so absurdly undefeatable and spreads through pretty much every vector that armed resistance isn't really at all possible

the yonkers chapter is by far one of my favourite chapters in any book
I really like the early chapters when it talks about how the early spread and early reports of zombie attacks, but I dunno if I can pick my fave chapter.

So many of them have such fantastic imagery.

i highly recommend reading CROSSED if you have the stomach for it

while its gore porn of the highest degree, the characters in almost every series are well written and it sets an appropriate tone

the comics set in rural Wales and Scotland show pretty accurately how my folks would react
and the ones set in America have just the right amount of retards

Crossed is fantastic, I've read the entire series bar the second half of the one set in the future.

same

arguably its one of the weakest series

i like some of the concepts but the way the characters speak just gets grating when you cant understand half of the things they're saying

Got some more gameplay.

Considering it's cheaper than the average retail game at launch, I'm really enthusiastic about this. Less so as a game I'll pour hours into and more of a game I can see myself jumping on when I'm bored and mowing down hordes of zombies.

Game came out today, and it is honestly well worth the price tag. Graphics are great, online play is smooth, the campaigns are all unique (only finished two so far though, they're fairly short but more are coming) and the setpieces are super cool.

If you need a game to kill time with friends, pick this up. The campaigns are honestly probably about the same length as L4D's but more genuinely varied.
