first OTA reskinned as cops, then mostly inoffensive but still out of place in a City conscripts, then these pitch black special operations outfits for people who didn't actually do any special operations because OTA existed and then actual just straight up fucking mall cops because idk chez gave up trying to act like the people guarding the most important (non-staff ((fucking OMSO))) faction should look remotely intimidating or imposing.

People got bored and kept asking for them to be changed

At one point I got fed up and said I'm not changing them anymore.

nothing more magical than finally seeing geared rebels in the wild after playing hl2rp on and off since 2013 at the time, incredible stuff. they don't even remember me, yet i remember them. i remember the person i let down with the m3 during the shadow sweep because i did /wr (whisper russian) instead of /rw to warn him. i remember it all. im sorry.

The faction had to be established because none of the OTA players were in the faction to guard CAB, but to slaughter rebels wholesale when needed - some still enjoyed it, but it was the minority

They were a literal afterthought, for the most part- which hindered CAB from interacting with anyone in the street and outside of the Nexus in general

i kinda liked the last, business casual models to be honest. showed proselytes off as an attachment to cab’s high life, not ota’s cool factor

I think the model changes weren't the worst of it, it was the role of the faction and their dynamics with other Overwatch factions changing whenever the faction leader had a 'cool idea' that evening

Proselyte lore was simple, you were the 'elite guard' to CAB who existed to bolster their authority with your intimidation and armed patrols, but then at some point I started seeing the faction leaders giving themselves Donut Steel OC characters with cybernetic augmentations, brainwashing, who were speaking over CAB meetings, alongside intentionally letting in so few players that it was nearly impossible to get proselytes online, because they wanted the faction to 'be exclusive' instead of just having a normal amount of active players - two changes that both seemed to be pushing the faction into being Protectorates instead of what he was given

The whole point of early proselyte under CAB was 'high authority, no autonomy', you can do anything but only if your Senator commands it, yet people after me seemed not to realize the faction exists to support CAB activity rather than overtake and dominate it (looking at you OMSO, another beloved concept by the same mind)

I've said this before, but while Chez was guilty of a lot of things you can go back into the archives to see that - early on - he only ever reacted to CAB themselves asking for change, and then in response to complaints. There's a reason he went from incredibly willing to help with everything and try new ideas to a moody cunt over his time lol.

A lot of people will just go "no he was a shit lead" but its not like CAB didn't overstep with Proselytes when they were nothing but lackies, either - looking at C8 when they were used for sewer sweeps, raids on rebels and to bully cops away from situations they shouldn't have been sent into just because CAB wanted to get involved.

The entire system was a lot of push-and-pull on both sides, not all of it good.

Definitely he was being pushed to change things externally by some people, but those people weren't the ones who were pushing RP in CAB at the time

The problems I have is that:
1. High-tier proselyte characters became more important than high-tier CAB characters
2. Ripping apart proselyte lore, replacing it with sparsely edited RP documents and steam chat questions, some key information about his new 'operatives' were never written down anywhere on the forums because he expected you to talk to him for info, leading to individual proselytes being confused on how to roleplay their characters unless they personally asked him for headcanon

On top of this, the whole headcanon lore situation made it really easy for him to do more stupid bullshit because he would just start making up additional lore facts that enabled him to overstep his boundaries

it got handed to them, my guy gets killed by some corrupt transhuman cops over it, then...

nothing. at all.

i still vividly recall my first time ever touching the outlands in lemonpunch

had my first ever char, valentino castell, i dont really remember what map we were on but i have a feeling it was some version of r17 or something to that degree but i could be wrong

went down into this half-sewer-half-canal looking thing with mud floors, found a greensuit standing at a generic construction Q menu table and without any other kind of dialog, he just immediately asked me if i wanted to go to the outlands

of course i did

he told me to come back with like 200 tokens so i ration farmed my way there, came back, gave him the tokens and we were off. i distinctly remember having a small panic over whether or not i was using the gas suit correctly because he told me i'd die if it wasn't on right. i remember being incredibly confused when we went through the portal between servers, because i had no idea it was separated like that and i think i actually thought i'd just crashed until i reconnected and saw i was on outlands

i gave him the gas suit, he pointed me in a direction and left. so i started walking.

only headed in the direction of the bunker because i saw a guy in a blacksuit with a spas running that way. went in, heaps of people around, 95% of people ignored me except this one woman who got me (i think?) an mp40 or something along those lines and a resistance suit

hung around there and then decided to go adventuring. i found the tapestry eventually, spoke to a few people there, witnessed @Aether hunting down a pair of hunters and then dragging the corpses back so he could mount them on pikes

fast forward a few days and a like 10-man ota squad bumrushed the tapestry, i hid in the back of the little bar/kitchen with my mp40 and im pretty sure i didnt even get a shot off, i just got minced by an elite

and then, while i waited at spawn, i took my very first screenshot

eventually my char got shot in the ass by simeon by accident when he was trying to shoot a scanner in the bunker, i went to do medrp and while i was sitting in the medbay recovering, medley's rebel randomly came to pour medigel down my character's throat and pked me

bare in mind i was 14-15 at this point and valen was my first char, so i unironically got teary as fuck over it and had no idea that pk appeals existed at the time so i never got the character back. i wouldve, too, because i later found out (i mean like 1-2 years later, too, iirc) that i died because i accepted a hug from medley's ic girlfriend.
